Arg at this rate i am going to want ppl to stop ever making sci fi fantasy tv or movies.
I thot tat making Foundation adaptation was gonna be as unrelated/radically updated~changed/slightly ridiculous as much as I, Robot and/or Bicentennial Man, flawed but slight/ok movies with any redeeming qualities not dependent much on Asimov's original work. In kinda same way, i rlly liked John Carter in the cinema when i watched it but it dint stand up to a rewatch by way of dvd, mostly it was a retread of movies tat stole all the ideas from a 1912 novel(almost a 100 yrs old in 2009 when the Disney movie came out). Foundation isnt nearly as old but lots of its themes hv been re-engineered/outright copied(it seems to me, i hvnt chkd for a 1 on 1 comparison) in more recent shows, so im not sure how much.Arg at this rate i am going to want ppl to stop ever making sci fi fantasy tv or movies.
i just reread the series earlier this year.I thot tat making Foundation adaptation was gonna be as unrelated/radically updated~changed/slightly ridiculous as much as I, Robot and/or Bicentennial Man, flawed but slight/ok movies with any redeeming qualities not dependent much on Asimov's original work. Tat said, ignore most/all wat i wrote above, after i watched the trailer it seems to adalt mostly the Hari Seldon era, "The Psychohistorians", Prelude to Foundation n Forward the Foundation. I amended/added radically updated~changed as i think season 1 will focus on tat era, im not sure if there'll even be a season 2/when/how it will pivot to the next main character, Salvor Hardin. Its not gonna be the Foundation i know from the books, but ill wait n see b4 i make/consider any verdict. It might be better than I, Robot/Bicentennial Man. If its worse, there wont be a season 2 n it can be forgotten. if i like it AND then its cancelled oh well, tats life for 1 season sf shows.
I hvnt rewatched I, Robot in idek how many yrs. I hv minor quibbles with R1, more so with EG, im ambivalent now abt Serenity since Book n Wash were killed, i was shocked n believed it was story wise acceptable but now its many yrs l8r, n it precludes a continuation with them in it so....i just reread the series earlier this year.
This looked to have little but the name in common.
I robot isnt perfect but its watchable i own it on blu ray.
but good sci fi in the last 2 decades is rogue 1, enders game, serenity.
R1 EG are more about they have the correct feel.I hvnt rewatched I, Robot in idek how many yrs. ig im glad even to be getting flawed sf shows like Looper, Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow n Tomorrow War; considering the budgets n the dearth of such movies from when i was younger, it took 16 yrs for Star Wars to continue the prequels, another 10 yrs(?) for the sequels, n 11 yrs n counting for Avatar(wjich i consider a good thing n i wouldnt mind not hv any sequels at all rn).
im in abeyance of commitment to form an opinion on Foundation, LoTR (Amazon), WoT (Amazon also, hmmm), GoT prequel House of Dragons. As none of these hv appeared yet, in final first episode form.
