Take instgram for example.

After 4 months (except for a thir who had pre existing acounts) all of izone except Sakura ( and soon Wonyoung) are within a few 100k up or down of 1 million.

ill post Eunbi she is following the rest.

https://www.instagram.com/silver_rain.__/

yet izone sold crazy well and charted well. every album is certified.

Take RV

Joy is pushing 12 mill
Seulgi pushing 10 mill
Irene and Yeri over 8 mill ( Irene has not posted for a year because of what ever that was last year.)
Wendy mid 4 mill

RV charts well and has sold well but no albums are certified.
And RV has 10X the interested eye balls.

Wendy way out sold Joy who has 3x followers (although joy is still charting but it think that is just folks loved that old song and Joy's version is very pleasant )

And Wendy has more spotify followers.

i guess the question is i see zero correlation between sales and internet/sm popularity

RV sells ~ 100- 180k as a group I & S did 230-240

say 150,000 maybe 1 in 60 - 70 eyeballs buys a RV album.

My conclusions:

Wiz*Ones have poor internet connections but lots of money.

Reveluvs have gigabit internet service but are so poor they live on ramen.

lol

I remember looking into some bg v gg numbers and IZ*one monetizes the fan's at near the same rate as top bg. I think i used v live numbers there.

its actually worse for BP aside from the last album they are lower than RV in an eyes per buy.

these are a bit old.

https://dbkpop.com/db/kpop-idol-instagram-accounts

they have 5x or more followers. and 1 time have they sold more than 5x RV .

if ya take 5x the monster album that is ballpark the only real album from bp.
Rose has 10x wendys number but did 2.5x sales

bts is not on insta so hard to judge them

I think u have to consider why people followed and what the person is known for :dubuthink:

Like not everyone is interested of music of the person. And public who might be more into music might not care about following in social media.

Instagram followers is tricky, there so many bots/fake accounts/paid followers, it's hard to know how much is genuine.

I guess engagement rate is a better metric, a lot of companies use that for better analysis. Sometimes despite having millions of followers, the average likes per post might be much lower than someone with less followers, that probably suggests more bots/paid followers.

IG followers are more indictive of individual brand power and public interest over musical interest. Most idols really don't use their IGs to share music outside of a few teasers, it's mostly day-to-day or modeling pics which is gonna attract a different kind of crowd. The crossover isn't going to be proportionate or even predictable. Modeling and being an Influencer seems to be an increasingly necessary jobs on top of the singer-dancer-entertain gigs idols already have to juggle

If you rank the most followed members on IG (Red Velvet being skewed because of Irenegate and SBSgate) Joy→ Seulgi→ Irene (again Irenegate but reasonably she'll be at 15M by years end and #1)→Yeri→ Wendy and BP Lisa→Jennie→Rosé→Jisoo it does line pretty evenly with the amount of endorsements they get, the amount of covers they're asked to do, how frequently they trend and general popularity. IZ*One and Twice focused heavily on group branding over individual

I still feel like SM put Joy in a bit of a disadvantage with her "solo" and that's why it didn't outsell Wendy. Barely 2 weeks notice and a remake album of 90s hits, nice but not what most expected from her.

Joys album hit her demo in Korea and has charted high on melon the whole time

this is right now.

so while int fans did not connect her target group in Korea did. Wendy did not stay charted for long but sold well out side korea.

she still sold over 100k with the cassette added so very well.
