Thing is, though, when you fly into Vegas you see miles and miles of desert. Then out of nowhere there's this city with lots of lights, air conditioning, pools, fountains, golf courses, etc. A lot of energy and water are wasted used up in trying to keep Vegas going.

These. Disney World and Las Vegas are two of the biggest wastes of energy and time, IMHO. They are great examples of "American excess".
