2020 Thanksgiving Plans: What are your plans?(Or early X-Mas plans if not celebrating it? Or other end of year festival/celebrations?) (4 Viewers)

Since Thursday 26th November 2020 is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., im asking what are your plans for this day?(if ur not in/of US n dont celebrate it, wat abt early plans for X-Mas/other year end celebrations/festivals?)

I dont celebrate Thanksgiving(not in/of US), so im curious n would like to know. [I hv previously attended 1 Thanksgiving outside the US thrown/arranged by my USian sister-in-law but it was a far cry from a traditional US thanksgiving. Very enjoyable gathering with family/friends/acquantances tho.]

So tell me ur plans, if any pls? (I planned a different thread based on existing circumstances but abandoned it, this is a modified hopefully alright alternative-pls keep it civil n non-insulting, non-inciting, non-provocative if possible) thnx

Some things i read lately, like in the last day or so said-Virtual Thanksgiving 2020. Where you Zoom call during dinner and then hang-up after a short while(im paraphrasing). This seems perfect to me the introvert. Even in the future, families shd give their loved ones to option to participate in family gatherings thru Zoom(even if im in my own room in the same hse LOL)

Don't want to ruin anything, but we're having a small one with my grandpa, an uncle, and me and my parents. Made a gluten-free Pumpkin Pie so I can finally have one this year.

Ooh, I realise US Pumpkin Pie isnt the same as Asian Punpkin Pie (as i found itChinese Steamed Pumpkin Cake) but going off topic in my own thread, i love Pumpkin Pie (or Chinese Steamed Pumpkin Cake).

Its less fussy, the one my mom makes-not so much garnish on top. N its not eaten specifically during non-existant asian thanksgiving but i love pumpkin cake too.(this version at least) i dont eat it as much nowadays since i think it takes awhile to make.i had it last year i think. Uhmm thinking abt it just makes me lick my lips.

Yeah no, they are very different. That looks almost savory while I think American ones are definitely more sweet-but I may be wrong on that since I've never had an Asian one. I usually make pumpkin custard since I can't eat normal pie but this year we worked around it.

It isnt savory but sweet-ish. The thickness of the cake is kinda illusory. I found a recipe but the pumpkin flesh i think has flour n other bits added to seem savory but its not.

Also wat size pis did/do you make? Im curious since during this lockdown i wanted to make no-bake cheesecake but found the 8"-12" size too big for 1 person. It makes sense tho if ur making it for a group.

Well, my one aunt is GF like me so she'll probably have some when I bring it over for her Thanksgiving. My Dad is newly diabetic, so it's better for him to eat my pie. So it's more for a group but mainly for me so it's a regular like 9-inch pan. In hindsight, we probably could've gotten a smaller one but we only have 9 inch ones and it's convenient.

I was looking for a 4" or 6" pie pan, but dint find it. Not thru web or offline. But i dont use amaz*n or there's no big US/western style hyperstores near here, we hv local/imported clone hypermarts but not on the scale of walmart or watever else u hv in US.

Its basically cranberry jam lol; i don't like it that much either but i think i perfected it

Tbh, i think my reaction stems more from tv i think friends thanksgiving episode had the guys disdaining cranberry sauce(might be wrong abt the show but not i think abt my impression coming from a show i watched, since iv nvr had cranberry sauce irl)

Speaking of which- a) or b)?

I made cranberry sauce like B, but it's less...soup-like. I just simmered the cranberries in sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, a bit of orange juice, and water.

We are huge thankgivingers. like growing up we used to travel to spend it with my mothers entire extended family (which got to be huge 100+)

We had planed for all of just our fam to meet at one of my sisters homes, but one of her kids tested pos sun. Sis is super sad as this was her sons senior/grad year and covid has killed all the fun of it from vacation plans to this.

I have been sick for 3 weeks, not really any signs of the stuff but not really smart of me to go. Some family was already here so they are going to my folks, a chunk of them have had it during sept. Not super smart of me to go so they are going to bring me a plate.

Dang, sad tat ur sick n cant join in thanksgiving festivities. Hope u enjoy the day as much as u can n tat ur family is safe n well. (I think tat the big asian thing of early 2021 CNY might be a tad muted in jan/feb 2021) my well wishes to u n ur loved ones for a happy thanksgiving day.

I'm not doing a lot of cooking this year, I'll make cranberry sauce, my brothers making cream puffs, my moms making turkey, potatoes, and cinnamon rolls, and someone will probably make dinner rolls.
