I was just browsing the internet and came across a question thread about whether homosexuality was a mental illness (obviously it’s not) and I was like okay the results can’t be too bad, it’s probably super uncommon for people to think it is nowadays. Boy was I wrong. The first two results said it was. Their argument? For one it was “I’ve met hundreds of people who are gay and every one of them has a troubled childhood. Prove that I’m wrong and you can’t” and the other “I was straight but then I was sexually abused and turned gay. I know loads of people who were sexually abused and became gay and I know for sure they wouldn’t have been gay if they weren’t sexually abused”. I can’t be the only one who finds something wrong with these arguments can I? How do people still think this way? I just don’t understand

For real. I can confirm that I’ve never suffered abuse and yet I’m still on the LGBTQIA spectrum, so how would they figure that out? Not to mention, if abuse by one gender makes you stop liking that gender and like the other gender where do bisexuals/pansexuals fit in this theory?

Prove me wrong? Prove what? People forget that when you present an argument the burden of proof falls on YOU, gay people don't have to prove shit lmao. My first crush was a girl, when I was probably 8 or something. Then at 14 something happened between me and a guy, I am still bi. This weird obsession with trying to correlate sexual orientation to abuse is odd. Abuse can make people develop all sorts of things, from phobias to attractions yes, but this claim backfires when you consider that. Does this mean that heterosexual victims of abuse are mentally ill because they are hetero? Please be serious

I agree with the not so traumatic childhood. I mean I've had traumas but none that usually correlate with what they mentioned. I'm on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum aswell

Their “logic” baffles me. Like yea I was sexually abused but thats not the reason why I am under the LGBTQIA umbrella. I knew I wasn’t straight in like grade eight and my abuse didn’t happen till college.
