In what way? If sound, then I definitely disagree since Black Mamba doesn't have any drastic sound changes in the song and it all just flows. This song specifically also doesn't sound like anything ITZY has ever released before but then again, I usually only listen to ITZY songs once so I'm not all too familiar with them.

Their dance, esp. at 2:03. Also some of their outfits as well.

Ohh I don't follow ITZY so I'm not sure about their outfits/choreos. I have seen others say that the floor sequence is something similar to what ITZY have done before though so I guess you're not the only one

My oomfs are mainly Seulgi biased too, which kinda makes sense....


I want to give SM credit, and say that they were hiding Winter's talents, so that they could shock us with her talents on Aespa's debut. But I feel that that's giving SM too much credit, and reality is, they are just being asses as usual.....

This is the most exciting thing to happen to me lately in K-POP. EXO and RV haven't released group music in a million years so I'm putting all my energy into Aespa. I like them a lot

It's not bad but guess I expected more. Def a solid debut, nothing tremendous but yeah.

MV was great, girls can all sing and dance. Sound wise, it didn't do much to stand out from the rest of the pack, it's pretty much a standard girl crush performance based sound, like a mix of Itzy X BP, but let's see what they have in store for the future. Has potential, even if I'm not exactly blown away yet.

Eman's Black Mamba Review

Man I've had to watch this about 12 times.

There's so much going on with that video I had to repeat it so I could focus on different parts each time. It's so much at once

I actually really dig the song... Like damn I didn't expect it as this usually isn't my kind of style. I'm the guy that's into ballads and TWICE. But wow.

This is such a memorable song. And I mean that literally. Even if you may not even like it. It's the kind of song you can't mistake for another.

It's central chorus and surrounding structure all solidified around "black mamba"... This is the kind of of song that has an identity it weaves with its phrasing and repetition, digging into your ear so you can't mistake it for another.

It's very much branded in that way. Which is a good thing. Especially for a debut.

This ain't anyone elses song but AESPA's and they'll be known for it. Whether one likes it or not. It'll get the word out.

It's a driving high energy banger to announce AESPA on the scene.


As for the MV and aesthetic. A lot to take in At first I was overwhelmed. While I think the over the top kaleidescope of neon and scene changes makes a splashy statement and grabs attention. I think it actually could have benefited from reining it in ever so slightly and focusing a little more on a less frenetic visual style. They needed an editor to pare down to a more manageable visual narrative. We had snakes and trains and computers and rainbow neon and AI and red and black shadow rooms and a swan lake like ballet intro complete with Evil Dark Queen pause in the middle. It's all cranked up to an 11. When a 9 would have hit a sweet spot and I think.... Maybe not overwhelmed to that extent while still being a energetic aesthetic.


The central dance move where the camera swivels as they are on the ground swinging their legs in steps...... That was awesome. That will be their standout branded choreo section.

The rest though... Isn't as memorable. And had some really odd parts. Like the tiptoeing ballet like formation at the beginning that seemed out of place to the rest of the vibe. Black mamba ain't tiptoeing.

The members all looked great and did amazing. I won't comment at length on vocals as I'm not knowledgeable of that area but to my ears. They all sounded great and really fit the song.

As for overall presence of the members. I thought Karina did very well but perhaps didn't shine as much as her lead in promo might suggest she would have. She's often shown as the central focus and SM clearly wants to push her. But I think she's relying too much on her stoic bad queen aura regality to get her across. Hopefully she can let her personality come through more in the future. As for the others. They all did wonderful. Winter the standout visual. Giselle with confident attitude. And NingNing...... NingNing was was my personal fav. Perhaps because I wasn't expecting it. The girl has a spunky stage presence that shined in this. Bravo.


Overall I think this is a solid debut for them. It may not be everyone's cup of tea. But I think they put out a great driving banger with memorable central imagery that will help them "brand" this debut in the kpop scene.

I think it's a good base to grow from.

Hopefully it does well!

Lol I hope this isn't spamming but I'm so excited!! I just wanted to say, that random demon chanting in the middle was so random. Like they could have completely excluded it and it wouldn't have made a difference.

I'm looking forward to seeing the theories of that random AI at the end too. Also that Winter and butterfly shot at the end. It looks like it's referencing their next comeback. And I know they JUST debuted but I cannot wait for more!!

Also the MV is about the black mamba disrupting the connection between the AI world and the Aespa world. Apparently the random blurred out AI scene at the end is the villain being born. Which means that the short haired AI we saw is a villain??

While the MV was nice to look at it felt weird at times.
Karina completely missing her beginning part, forgetting to lip sync, or barely doing so, weird MV cuts that didnt really seem to fit the style.
Karina watching aespa on her phone and the camera zooming in on it felt extremely out of place, overall its kind of a lot and messy as well,
its just these little things that shouldnt happen for a company like SM.

I'll still keep an eye out for their future releases of course as I always do with groups.

Yeah apparently LSM wants to create a SM Culture Universe kinda like the MCU, so SuperM being the Avengers has kinda led to this too now lol. I guess we'll see all SM acts connected to each other in the same universe with how SuperM/NCT U hinted at Aespa and now Aespa hints at BoA. Won't be surprised if there are eventually AI avatars for all SM idols in the Synk verse which is being introduced with Aespa. Idk man, LSM is weird

Super Junior seem to be away from all this, happy in their own sub label lol.

On a few more relistens, the song has grown on me, still wouldn't say it surpasses stuff like Dalla Dalla, Latata or La Vie En Rose in terms of memorable debuts sound wise, but with the MV, concept and everything else, I can see this doing well. It's catchy enough for me, but I don't think it will have a lot of repeat value. Still, I like the potential showed by the members here, and future comebacks should be fun.
