Same reason some(most) millennials might not know the Beatles, or The Rolling Stones or Elvis Presley even: all before their time, and not on their SNS/YT/Spotify reco. list.

I'm old so i know whoever was popular in ny time but i understand yoof not knowing abt them. Chillax ok.

I wouldnt even know 1D either except for TS/Styles ship/breakup so i had to look it up. Harry Styles solo debut was alright. I listened to "Sign of The Times" a lot on my phone when it was newly out.

I kind of agree about SOTT - it was alright, not the best song choice for a solo debut (depressing concept), but the rest of his debut album, as well as his sophomore effort Fine Line, are all bops! Of course, this is coming from a Harry-biased Directioner lol, but you should really give it a listen!

Again 1D's heyday was in 2010~2015 worldwide; they were ard 10 yrs old! ~ 15 yrs old by the time 1D peaked then disappeared as a topic for them to get into.

I know in Asia teen girls ard 2011~2012 or so were rlly crazy abt 1D, but it passed, i believe when they grew older(only ppl who were ard then n heard abt 1D then knew how widespread they were; but they hv literally flown off the radar as a topic since then to those too young to know abt them then). I dont get why this is surprising to anyone? Who are the Moffats? BSB? N'Sync? Nkotb? Boyzone? Take That? Literally nobody who was too young then or born after their heyday would hv a different reaction than aespa to 1D, you're only surprised cos you were in the middle of the storm, n you overestimate their long-lastingness even compared to the ones i mentioned above. If you were born after their heyday, n you dint hv to google any/all the grps i named-ur the exception.

Even i know tat my faves from my yoof-Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos, R.E.M. Bryan Adams might not be well known to 10~15 yr olds/twentysth now. I dont wonder why it is so. It may just be collective cultural memory is shorter than ever, (it may also be tat in 2010~2015 1D made no impression/impact in SK.) But i believe tat idols/trainees do learn/study western music figures(or personally listen to, from wat they day in videos like this) if only as homework for videos/interviews like this. Just 1D may be low on the preference list/exam cos they gone away/b4 their time. Just imo. ymmv.dont get mad cos i spoke my mind.

Gen Z definitely know One Direction and BSB but okay. They might not know everything about their career but they will definitely be able to recall their hit singles
