kind of, I'm a firm believer that as a fan you should whack your fav and stay realistic abt them and their flaws, but that you should also still shield them from unwarranted criticism or else what, they're older and no longer the new hot thing, much of the fandom has moved on, they've been coddled so they don't have the skills or anything to find work, and to boot they have a bad rep in the industry thanks to their fans

jokes aside, not quite -- it's the wanting to know more that leads me into deep dives like that, the drama in itself isn't the main pull but rather the why, which kind of forces you to go in deep tbh

like one of my favs literally has zero ambition and the career fan in me wants to see her do more because she's crazy talented and only missed out on chances because of bad timing out of her control, but also they're their own person? there's a mismatch there but it's fine, I get it, but here the mismatch here is dating scandal > being ok as the far right poster girl in severity which I simply cannot agree with

tbh the severity of that was also kind of self inflicted because she was number one jiminjeong shipper too
which fine, ships sell and it's part of fanservice and she was really good at it in the kpop sense, but when her image was tied being number 2 to only loona in wlw parasocialism and she was out dating a man... the fallout should have been something they considered

like yeah, fans were too far expecting it to be real when she posted abt her ideal type all being a man (180cm+, wants to visit croatia, etc) on askfm predebut but it wasn't completely their own conjecture like the gaylors that still persist

honestly I'm out of touch like friends show me screenshots of the k and cside and I barely understand the emoji talk then

I want to understand something here.
I've seen people say that it's a big deal because it looked like she was endorsing the party of the guy who basically tried to subvert democracy by declaring marital law (and that party voted against his impeachment).
I get that.
But I've also seen it said that ANY expression of support for ANY party or candidate would be scandalous.

But then, I remember that Twice's Cheer Up was used by two opposing presidential candidates, seemingly by coincidence, and probably with the permission of JYPE. So how come? Was it not as big a deal back then? If one of the candidates used it and the other didn't, would that have been different?

@MK3AM I think she’s unfortunately had a lot of weird pervy fans but that it was mostly drowned out by her female fans, they’re mostly sticking by her but I think a lot of goodwill was lost there so she’ll probably be scrutinized worse going forth

@catonkatonk I think part of it is image too, the ppp has been tied heavily to incel and generally far right nationalist rhetoric in at least the last two election cycles, I don’t want to pull the maga card but you can imagine how the average fan especially will not take too that very kindly

I actually posted a thread earlier today of an animated short to INTW by a team of indie animators where you can see many light sticks: many of the protests were attended by young women who brought their light sticks, so there is also that recent association of fangirls specifically and these democratic protests

whiplash was played a lot during these protests and it was kind of a meme to say “protesting for a better world for (idol)” so it’s another layer of tone deaf

pretty much everyone in the race has sketchy history of corruption, but when one is universally regarded as worse (except for men in their 20s), it’s more eyebrowing raising of a choice for sure when all her peers are either being neutral or openly supporting the other party
