I disagree

Boys tend to get away with a lot more, through the "boys will be boys" excuse
Oftentimes it is the girls who are expected to help out at home more as well

BUT on the flipside, I imagine most families are more protective of the girls and can coddle them more from outside "attacks" so to say and will less readily believe wrongdoing from them.

I wouldn't say I noticed if my little brother was spoiled more than me. I know that he got away with more because as the older sister and a generally unproblematic child she had higher standards for me to behave and do the right things.

On the outside I think it appears like girls get spoiled more but if you look into how the kids are being parented or the activities they do, then I think you see boys its really boys.

Boys tend to have a harder time getting "No" and "Stop" because parents will let them get away with stuff a lot. Like 90% of classroom disturbances I dealt with was boys acting out and the other 10% was girls reactions to boys not leaving them alone. The boys tended to have more entitlement issues too where they thought they were deserving of stuff.

From personal experience as well: My parents bought me computers, clothes, toys, etc. a lot more than my brother because they felt guilty about how much money they spent on him. He was involved in a lot of sports (that were $1000 per season) and got expensive equipment and went on expensive trips. I know a lot of female siblings of the boys he played sports with went through similar stuff, so we looked like spoiled princesses but in reality our parents weren't spending anywhere near the same amount on us as they were our brothers.

Depends on who's the favorite
And yes, parents do have a favorite
This.

Mine and my aunts case we weren't the favorite, it was our brothers so they got more.

i think it definitely depends on the family dynamics. In my family, we have a brother (we don't talk about him much lmao) and since he's the only boy, he used to get clothes and stuff from my mom, while me and my sister had to pay for our own clothes as soon as we were able to.

however, my friend is one of 2 girls in a family of 9 people. She and her younger sister do tend to get more attention and get away with things more.

It also depends on the family's personal beliefs and just personalities in general i think.

Lots o factors there.

just some points.

Age can be more of an issue. Especially big gaps.
Older kids are expected to carry a bigger load in more old school families.

of course there is always the comparisons.

family make up.
big variances like say 3-1 either way most likely will see some bias.
special needs or perceived special needs will suck a lot of attention.

Younger kids are more often given more freedom(unless the eldest were complete screw ups then it can swing hard the other way) and stuff as the family matures and earning increase.

some kids are just easy to deal with and they may get preferential treatment because it more pleasant to interact with them.

I think it depends on the family and the culture. It's like @maruberry said, there's always that "boys will be boys" excuse and more often than not girls will be expected to hold themselves to a higher code of conduct than boys. I'll use my family as an example: in a way, my sister was super spoilt growing up because she was the only girl in our family plus all of my cousins were boys too so even my aunts spoilt her during holidays and stuff because she was the only one that they could buy girly stuff for but on the flip side, she was also given a lot more responsibilities. Like babysitting me and the other younger kids in our family which none of the boys were ever trusted to do plus in our house she was the only one that my mum taught to do the household chores like how to work the washing machine and do the ironing. My brothers still had to wash dishes and things but there was a clear difference in the amount of stuff my sister was asked to help with.

I would say yes. My half sister is way more spoiled than I ever was.
Probably also due to the fact, we don't have many girls in our family either.

Parents never really did much of anything with me growing up, so it was a rather boring childhood honestly.

I think it depends.

For me, I grew up in an always changing household, sometimes I'd be living with step siblings, sometimes it would be just me and my half brothers. It really depended on who was living with us at the time. If my step siblings were living with us my mom had to make sure all ten of us (yes ten kids lol) were being taken care of, the only one who got I guess 'spoiled' was my oldest half brother, it wasn't with items or things like that though as we didn't live the greatest but he was allowed more freedom and was the boss of us when my mom wasn't around.

When it was just me and my half brothers the attention would again go to my oldest brother, he would be allowed to get away with more and constantly lied to my mom, he got away with many things but when I made a small mistake I would get punished. Our extended family also made me and my other brother do a bunch of things when we were with them but our older brother was treated like a king.

it really depends.

it's usually more that the younger siblings get more freedom and stuff. like my mom always let my brother do more stuff and is less worried about him when he is out.
