tw for mentions of bullying and mental health

my mom found some old art i made in art class at highschool but i told her i personally dont care to keep it. as an artist, i know the importance of keeping art to notice your own progress, but it was work for school, not stuff i made on my own terms. i want to mostly forget my school days because my memories of it are (mostly) all bullying and stress. it was never fun for me. she told me that i'd regret it because i'll forget later down the line and want to remember because its such an insignificant part of life.
the thing is, because i dealt with so much bullying, im mentally fucked up from school and have been for years now. uh.... that doesn't sound like something insignificant. even if therapy does lead me to recovery, i doubt i'll ever forget those memories.

even further, i already forget a decent ass amount of the good memories from school. most of the things i do remember still are weird or stressful, and therefore mean nothing to me. and finally, i don't interact with any friends i had in school anymore except for one person.

of course i have memories that matter to me to remember. but school just isnt one. is that really so bad?

it is a shame that we dwell on the bad stuff instead of remembering the good stuff. I personally don´t care about my school days either as they were either as you have said ... weird in terms that generally most people hated me, ridiculed me and just plainly avoided me ... as I am growing older I try to keep up the good memories and the rest of the stuff is to be found in some dust bin of my unconsciousness.

if you don´t care for that art, definitely throw it away. honestly, I absolutely hate to keep stuff like that around myself. but I understand why some people would keep it. it just seems like you don´t want to, so don´t.

I’m in the same boat, I was bullied a lot and had (and still have) mental health problems because of my school days. I would throw away the art in your place, the memories might become easier with time but they might not, and imo it’s not good to have reminders of your traumas all the time. I do hope things become better for you with time though.

I think depending on what memories are important. Tho there will always be things we don’t want to recall or thing about due to how emotional they make us or how painful certain things are.
