Just thinking about how, as a fan of a group, it's easy to have appreciation for the B sides or less popular titles. But sometimes, when I'm not a fan of the group, I'll be like "this is the only good song they have." :lisalaugh:

Any song the fandom hates being promoted is usually my favorite.

Twice. I like most of their Korean title tracks but their b-sides are so boring to me.
I don’t like the majority of their Japanese discography either

Looking through my liked songs playlist, here are artists where I have one song saved and it's their most popular one (based on peak chart position). :lisalaugh:

enhypen i think, in general i'm not a fan of their music (tbh i don't even know most of their songs) but drunk-dazed was so catchy and fun, i'm not surprised it became as popular as it did

if one isn't a fan of a group - what makes one then take the next step in listening to that group's bsides?

I mean I barely have enough time to consume my own fav's content and music - I'm interested to know why would someone would listen to the bides of a group they aren't even a fan of and even then what made someone choose to listen to those bsides instead of say other groups they aren't a fan of?

Some people like checking out new music releases and being able to hear what everyone else is chattering about on release day, even if it's not their favorite? It just runs in the background while I'm working, it's not like it requires dedicated focus.

It's how I found out that STAYC put the best song on their Young Luv album as a random B side instead of as the title lol.

I try to check out new music from groups who aren't my favs but generally it's limited to TT - I don't tend to listen songs beyond that

obviously different strokes for different folks but what makes you check out bsides from non-fav groups? like there are so many new releases everyday from popular groups, middling groups and even nugu groups

Mixture of reasons. Like I listened to Yves most recent album because one of the main pop subreddits was really hyping it up, so I was like man, it must be really good! Even though I'm not much of a Loona stan in general. So a lot of super hyped releases, I'll listen to, like Chaeyoung's was another one. It just makes it easier to understand why people are having the conversations and reactions they're having if I've also listened to it.

Sometimes it's just what's the algorithm on Spotify has pushed like "hey this artist you've listened to in the past has released a new album" and especially if it's a work day, it's something to throw on in the background. And I only really stop if I think it's either really good and want to save it or really bad and need to change it immediately. :lisalaugh:

Also, there are just a lot of artists that I like a mild amount. Like I want them to do well and their titles are normally never worse than "that was fine" to me, but they're not a top fave or anything. So if I like their title more than "that was fine," I'll go check out their album. This is especially true with solo acts in groups, since most groups I prefer as groups, and there are only a handful where I'd be willing to necessarily support and listen to anything all of the members put out just because it's them (i-dle, for one).

Also, sometimes I'm just in the mood for something new, like I'll look at my liked songs playlist and be like "I've heard all these songs a million times before" and just be interested in what else might be out there, which balances the days that I listen to the same song 121 times.:lisalaugh: Which is not an exaggeration, according to my Spotify stats.

That's probably more than you wanted, sorry~

no no no nothing is ever too much for selfmate!!!

it's very interesting how other people decide what songs to listen to (or not listen to) - obviously I know how I choose music and it is interesting to see that perspective from other people
