I know many people are creeped out about age gaps between adults. But what about Korea's entire "oppa" culture? Even underage girls use it to refer to older boys and men. If a Korean woman or transwoman is interested in a Korean man she will call him "older brother" in their language. Japan has the whole oniisan thing, which has incestual undertones. But apparently Koreans think nothing of it. Probably because they are desensitized. ifans seems to be turning a blind eye to it.

Noona, unnie and hyung are used in the same way as oppa, it just seems more of a general term rather than anything deeper or sinister. Besides, here in the west some females refer to their male sexual partner as ‘daddy’ which is way creepier to me.

brother and sister arent exclusively used to indicate literal blood relations; depending on the context they can simply indicate familiarity or closeness. either way, it's not our place to judge or comment on a language or culture we're not apart of. there are nuances that we as outsiders are missing.

its literally their culture dude, stop saying bs about something you don't care to educate yourself on.
oppa/unnie/noona/hyung doesn't suddenly mean you're sexually attracted to them, its to show closeness in a respectful way. i know for a fact that its something koreaboos romanticised and made sexual. and im pretty sure this is a reoccurring thing in many asian cultures including mine, absolutely nothing inappropriate about it. this is coming from someone who uses it almost daily.
