Are you scared of drunk people? (1 Viewer)

I have never been around drunk people before so I never actually realised how terrified I was until I found myself in the city at 8:30PM last night. It was Anzac Day AND there was a footy match between the two teams with the most extremist fan clubs so people went all out with their alcohol. The train station was filled with drunk people and I was so scared to even look any of them in the eye just in case I trigger them and they attack me. My sister on the other hand was so nonchalant. She even went and bought food in a store that was FILLED with drunk people. She said she’s not scared of them because she used to have drunk people come to her old work place all the time but just because a drunk person never did anything wrong when buying food doesn’t mean they won’t do anything wrong ever. Especially when some were still angry/upset over their fave footy team losing.
I think the main reason I’m scared is because I have never been around any so I don’t know what they’re like and I only ever hear stories of violent drunks so that’s my image of them. I’m sure not all of them are like that but I don’t think I’ll be getting over this fear any time soon.

Is anyone else scared of drunk people?

I haven’t been around a lot of random drunk ppl at once often but when I have I mainly just find them super annoying. Even when i was semi drunk i wanted to get away from them. I have seen drunk guys physically fighting before and that made me anxious

I'm sorry if this thread is offensive to you. I actually didn't think of the prospect of there being users that get drunk often on here at all when I made this thread. That was my fault. I really hope you're not upset.

I'm not really scared of them although I can see why someone would be.
Drunk people can be unpredictable, some of them at least. There are many different types of drunks for example when I'm drunk I just start babbling a lot which sometimes doesn't make even sense lmao, other drunk people can get more aggressive or more emotional and might just start crying about everything they see and do.
I think it mainly depends on the environment you are in with them, as you said for example they might be more angry if their favorite team lost the game, however I don't think they would go around attacking a random person that doesn't even seem to provoke them.

A violent drunk is called a raging alcoholic and I’ve never met them on good terms either. Drunk people can sometimes be fun,but really it all depends on how much they consumed or the setting they’re in. It’s easier when you’re with someone sober because you can literally push them back if they become forceful with you because it’s only drunk. Their behavioral usually can be aggressive,or disoriented where they won’t understand what they’re saying or you won’t. But,also their physical strength is also incapable when drunk. You can tap them,or push away. Just make sure they don’t lose their balance over something hard.

I’ve dealt with them multiple times and it’s very good to really subtly pay attention to the person because some do scare me,but only when you sense alcoholism in aggressive. Most drunks I know personally just become extremely loud and are actually harmless. Only verbal is usually the issue I notice

OMG don't apologize!! I was joking-I do get drunk but not often it is a joke on here though that I'm a drunk when I'm not.

I wasn't offended at all hun. Don't apologize or worry about it-I get that drunk people can be scary for people as everyone, when they are drunk, is a bit different. For me, I'm more blunt and honest than I usually am and very goofy. But you really shouldn't worry I was joking around.

I think I was more scared because I didn't know what would provoke them. That was actually my main concern. I have heard stories where even looking them in the eye may provoke them so I was so scared to even look at their faces. I just looked at my sister the whole time. There were people swearing everywhere and a lady was even crying. I had a heart attack when one man went to a drunk lady who was crying and asked her how she was only for her to push him away. I thought a fight would break out but luckily he just swore and walked away (he was able to walk straight so I don't think he was as drunk as his friends). But I automatically just assumed that he had another agenda when he went to her and I felt terrible about that because I'm sure drunk people can be nice as well but I literally have no trust for them.

I'm glad to hear that.
For some reason I just associate drunk people with violence and I don't even know why I do that. I guess I need to step out of that because like everyone has been saying, most just act different to their usual selves but not aggressive. I don't even have a good reason for being scared honestly.

i think for that part it's the way they approach the person? idk how difficult it would be to differentiate if they have a more aggressive walk towards a person which would look sus or if they like approach them more careful or slowly in a way if u get what i mean? I hope this doesn't offend anyone but like you know how some animals can get angry when you look them in the eyes? If you're uncertain about whatever when around drunk people I'd just suggest to, as you did, not like stare at them or look at them multiple times.
If you ever get into another situation like that maybe try to look around to see where more sober people are or maybe someone you even know etc. which in this case was your sister

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time. There was only one person I saw that was drunk to the point where she couldn't even stand up straight and everyone else (a.k.a all the men with the footy outfits on) were just super loud and swearing a lot and I think I associated that behaviour with violence. If that's normal drunk behaviour though then I'm glad to know.

They kinda annoy me more than scare me.
Older drunk men terrify me more due to past experiences with them. :llama_panic:

I don't think it's unreasonable but most drunk people need to be looked after rather than run from-people make dumb choices when drunk. I've never gotten extremely drunk but if I ever did I'd want someone looking out for me and making sure I didn't do something beyond dumb.

Yeh, I was really glad my sister was with me. I think I would have had a heart attack if I was alone. I was honestly terrified. One guy asked me if I was in line (at the food store) and I actually stopped breathing. If I'm ever in a situation like this again, I'll try to be more on the look out for their actions than their words. Thanks. :)

Not particularly, i grew up being surrounded by crackheads and Gangs...so i'm not particularly scared of drunk people.. depending what kind of drunk a person is, they're either harmless or just really annoying.
