Sensitive Assuming Idols sexuality (1 Viewer)

I am writing this thread because I feel that this is a topic that needs to be discussed. On Twitter the other day, I saw a post where a fan thought it would be a good Idea to as EXO's Sehun on his live if he was gay, like..... wtf? Mind you, Twitter stans are a different breed. I personally think that it is NOT okay for people to assume Idol's sexuality. In Korea, they are homophobic especially, the older generations. The younger generations however are a little more open-minded when it comes to sexuality. And even If Idols were actually gay, they would not say something like that out loud because they know the consequence of what would happen, ( hate, threats, etc.) I think that asking Idols those kinds of questions is inappropriate, to begin with. What do you all personally think?

I see where you are coming from, But for people to ask someone that, to me, that's not very appropriate and especially if that person does not feel comfortable sharing that kind of information, I don't think that people should pressure them into coming out

I 100% agree with what you are saying, but I think that even the jokes can get out of hand sometimes. Prime example: Irene hating men, The " Irene hates men" joke, in my opinion, has gone so far that many luvies think that she actually hates men based on edited youtube videos

Yeah I've seen a lot of people saying they unstanned Irene because she was rude to men but that's not even true lol. By jokes I meant more like "Joy loves women" and whatnot.

I see where you are coming from, But for people to ask someone that, to me, that's not very appropriate and especially if that person does not feel comfortable sharing that kind of information, I don't think that people should pressure them into coming out

Oh I agree, I just want to point out that there’s 2 sides to this. Assuming and asking an idol if they’re gay shouldn’t be done, but on the other hand saying that you should assume everyone is straight isn’t right either.

I def agree with your statement, people should not assume that people are automatically straight either because at the end of the day we will never really know unless they decide on a whim to announce it themselves

i agree that invading idols' privacy asking them about their sexuality is not a good thing, but that includes assuming that they're straight. saying that assuming idols' sexualities is offensive and then proceeding to say that they're straight is completely missing the point. south korea might be indeed homophobic, however it doesn't change the fact that the kpop industry profits off queerbaiting and homoerotic fanservice (i'm not going to lie, i've seen it and i enjoy it at times). of course i don't agree with openly asking an idol about their private life, but no idol gets death threats just because a teenager on twitter jokingly called them gay.

Felix is obviously Bi. But he hasn't came out yet--- to Stay's. So its not yet confirmed but most Likely possible. But assuming is isn't all that bad, its just a theory you bring to the public eye. I understand where you are coming from, people should not assume that people are automatically straight either because at the end of the day we will never really know unless they decide to announce it themselves. I think that companies using things like queerbaiting and other fuels that drive for people to have that mindset that it is ok to ask and assume things like that. ( I enjoy the queerbaiting too especially in Irene and Seulgi's " Monster)

the queerbaiting in kpop is ridiculous. monster, qodes, etc. It's so often brushed over, I can't believe people just let monster slide like that. But I'm straight, so it's not really my place to speak on it too much. I agree, I enjoy queerbaiting from time to time as long as it does not go overboard. I feel that fans use queerbating as an excuse to automatically assume that their faves are gay, bi, straight or whatever the case may be and I don't think that it's okay at all, They use these ideas to fuel thier own fantasies
