I've never been a full fledged Buddy that follows every activity nor do I keep up with them at the same extent of my other faves, but Gfriend used to be the best group musically for me.


IMO BigHit basically killed their sound and direction.

Gfriend's albums used to be complete non skips for me. Time For Us and Fever Season were my favorite releases from 2019. But now instrad of pop, most of their music sounds like forlorn, urgent sisters to their more mature innocent titles. I really can't recall most of their 2020 releases. The regression from Fever to Crossroads hit me hard and I still can't bring myself to like it even though its the same as Sunrise and TFTM. Labyrinth was an amazing song, Here We Are was fine, can't remember the last three. Apple was fine as a title and an obvious step up from Crossroad but still kinda meh. Stairs In the North was the only song I actually liked

The sudden shift in direction happened pretty much their first comeback under BH, and some of their producers including Bang PD have hands on their tracks now. Too much to be a coincidence

I absolutely hate Crossroads but I found Labyrinth and Apple amazing af lol, so I'm kinda optimistic for Walpurgis Nights, let's see

The albums are still very Gfriend though with the exception of the Big Hit producer tracks since Gfriend haven't had some of that stuff although From Me wasn't really that different.

I also say that while in general I've enjoyed all of their songs I also don't listen to all of them because there's so much I could listen to that I usually go for the really good ones so even if I enjoy a bside I still just might never listen to it again because it's good but it's not that good.

Gfriend have a lot of good bsides and even if they don't particularly impress me in Gfriends albums because the quality standard set is so high however if some were added to other groups albums then it'd be an improvement on those groups discography for me.

source going to big hit has done nothing positive for them musically.
Nothing for them sales wise either physical or digital.
Maybe some quality of life changes or status change.

as with many startups the number of folks who got paid on acquisition was small.

Now it may have added length to the group as BH will have cash to throw at them come renewal time, but source would have really wanted to keep em together also. Now they may have got new deals already as part of the merger.

playing superstar gfriend introduced me to more of their music than i knew before playing that game and honestly i love both their older and more recent songs. i didn't like crossroads at the first listen (it grew on me quickly though and i love it now), but the album has labyrinth and eclipse which are both among my favourite gfriend songs and apple is my favourite title track from them since rough was released, i also loved room of mirrors (the "run away foooor meeee" song just in case i messed up the title) maybe even more than apple. so honestly i don't mind bighit killing gfriend's sound as long as they don't try selling gfriend water or something...

Except that BH producers weren’t involved in their Labyrinth album if not for Labyrinth, the song that you like. Hitman Bang and Adora have credits for it.

As for Song of the sirens, the BH producers are involved in Stairs in the North and Apple production. That’s it.

For the rest, it’s the usual producers who work with Gfriend and some others.
