I don't think there is such a clause but apparently there is legal precedent that states (again I could be wrong) that the termination fee will be calculated with reference to the preceding two years prior to the termination then extrapolated out for the balance of the contract term...

I figured there had to be something, otherwise contracts are basically a form of slavery: if you sign one, you're stuck.

I feel like a competent lawyer would have laid this all out for them and been like "are you absolutely sure?" But there seems to be a lot of opportunistic people in that industry.

but yeah kpop contracts are horrible especially for nugu and smaller groups
the issue with lawyers is that while a lawyer can help you navigate through the contract the idol generally has very little negotiating power (especially upon debut)

Thing is that the lawyers they have are only second to the lawyers Hybe has so either there's a great gap in skill between #1 & #2 or NewJeans and MHJ are just barely listening to them

Yeah I don't think they are listening either just based on the fact that I remember during the press conference the lawyers interjected saying they don't know what they are talking about for one of them so this is clearly more of a "this is our goal now help us get there?" than actually "what's the best route through this situation?" type of case
