MPs cheered when Theresa May asked if Parliament wanted a second referendum, after the prime minister was defeated on her Brexit deal.
“This House will have to answer that question," Ms May told the house. "Does it wish to revoke Article 50? Does it want to hold a second referendum, or does it want to leave with a deal but not this deal?
"These are unenviable choices, but thanks to the decision the House has made this evening they must now be faced.”
As she mentioned a Final Say vote, several MPs shouted "yes”, followed immediately by others shouting “no”.
Shortly afterwards, another MP also shouted: “What about a general election?”
The prime minister's deal was voted down by a majority of 149.
The House will vote tomorrow on the option of leaving the European Union without a deal on 29 March, which Ms May said would be a “free vote” for her MPs.
The final vote by the UK Parliament on whether the UK would accept the Brexit deal with the EU was defeated in spectacular fashion tonight!!! Now the government will have to vote on whether the UK will leave the EU with 'No Deal' a scenario that isn't going to happen. Or the government will ask the EU for a extension of Article 50 to either try and work out another deal or even hold a 2nd referendum. There is also the very high possibility that Article 50 will be revoked all together meaning that we can all put this silly temper tantrum behind us and move on.
