Actually a good chunk of Az is forested mountains also

Since there is parts of 4 different deserts there its easy to see why ppl think its all desert.
both high and low desert ie desert over 1-2000meters and under 610 meters for the low. (mostly the cactus types ppl associate with AZ are in this.
most of the people do live in the low desert Phoenix metro area and Tucson.
