Do you emotionally invest in idols? (1 Viewer)

As asked in the question above: Do you all emotionally invest in your idol's meaning, you try to connect to them on a more personal level, or do you like them solely for their music? For me, it would be that I like the groups that I like solely for their music. I say this because as you all know these scandals and controversies have really opened my eyes way more than before. I already knew that idols aren't innocent as they seem. ( I'm surprised people see idols as saints). I just honestly feel that if I were to try to connect to my faves on a personal level, I just might end up disappointed sooner or later so I just save myself the hassle and disappointment by not emotionally investing at all. What about you all? Do you emotionally invest?

I don't really stan for just music, I like watching some varieties and funny clips sometimes as well, but I don't really invest in them emotionally anymore.
I'm the same as you, all these scandals really made me realize that we don't know our idols for who they are. For one of the groups that I stan, a member was involved in burning sun which kinda completed destroyed my view of idols? So since then, I just treat them like entertainment or like a reality show and less like people in supposed to get invested into.

No. I do get to know the groups past their music, but I know I don't really know them. So whenever something does come out, I'm disappointed but chill about it, and I find it easy to drop them.

kiki and gaochong are a given because that's the whole selling point of snh for me, the whole watch and support a regular girl into an established artist thing; ningning because of the sheer amount of time I've spent waiting for her debut
I don't see them as saints though, but I would describe myself as being invested in their careers because I know a lot of what they've been through to get here
ex. ningning was irresponsible at times with sns use and I do think it will land her in trouble one day, 75 be, gaochong's nearly year-long ghosting... I see them as people that I especially want to see succeed, that's it

No... and yes? Idk I know idols aren’t saints, I never see them as perfect people and know that we only see what they allow us to see. I care for the people I follow, want the best for them but I feel that way about pretty much any human, I don’t not want the best for someone you know? So as emotionally being attached to someone is caring for the said person and often being concerned for their well being, yes I’d say I am (but like I said I’m like this towards anyone, not just idols).

Well I don't see a point in saying you stan anyone if you aren't getting into the personalities of them as everything outside of that can be enjoyed as a casual fan however you do want to stay open minded like in real life as there's always a chance that someone isn't who you thought they were.

Yes and no. It depends on group cause for some groups I'm just there for music and for some groups it's both.

Usually scandals make me more emotionally invested on idols cause I hate witchhunts and I feel bad for them which makes me more invested. Ofc this means scandals that are stupid and aren't about them hurting someone.

I don't see how people correlate being a stan with you having to know your faves personalities. That makes no sense to me in the fact that you can stan a group for their music without knowing their true personalities. I do not understand the stigma of, you must know your idols inside out in order to stan them, I find that to be quite ridiculous. You shouldn't have to really know them to be called a stan

If you only like a groups music then you're more so a casual fan as stan is not just a word for being a fan of a group you have to be doing more than what would be considered normal fan behaviour.

It depends. I hate to give the stock answer, but its true. If I say I stan a group it doesn't always mean I can rattle off copious amount of facts about said idol. Idol culture is very packaged. I think it is a bit naïve to think that personalities as they are portrayed are entirely true to the actual person. I think we can say we stan that version, that character if you will, of say Sana than how really Sana is when she's alone...

I agree, this is what I was trying to explain to someone here earlier but I sometimes I cant get the right words. People believe that in order to be a true stan, you must know everything about them and I don't understand that

yeah if you're specifically using the word stan and not fan, to me a stan is a hardcore fan so i don't think of a stan as someone who doesn't even know the personality of their bias group at least from an outside perspective. after all we can't ever know how much of it is a persona.

that's why i am a fan of dozens and dozens of groups but a stan of much fewer since they are the ones i invest time in (that being said i still stan too many groups)

example that i stan bts stray kids monsta x itzy basically the ones in my sig
but i am a fan of snsd gfriend gidle beast tvxq btob etc etc too many to name

i don't think @Abeamus was saying you have to be able to rattle off t heir favorite color birthday and all that though, but if you haven't even seen them interact with each other offstage or seen their personas offstage then it's like you're missing a whole half of what they are as people at least as celebrities. you don't have to know about all of them 100% but a stan should know the basics even like this member is quiet this member is loud this member is savage t his member is cuter etc

anyway for my answer, i do tend to emotionally invest in idols but i am trying to be better about it since i am often reminded of their imperfections and the personas that they portray online

yeah i didn't really mention it in the original post it's just how i define a stan, i don't mind what you call yourself honestly, since we all have different definitions of stans

Yes, I tend to get very deeply emotionally invested in my idols but I'm also quick to cut them off if I find out they're problematic, and even after they apologize, I still have a hard time forgiving them even though I feel like I should get over it and stan them again
