Do you emotionally invest in idols? (1 Viewer)

Yes, I tend to get very deeply emotionally invested in my idols but I'm also quick to cut them off if I find out they're problematic, and even after they apologize, I still have a hard time forgiving them even though I feel like I should get over it and stan them again

That's understandable because it depends on the severity of what they did as well so I understand where you are coming from. For me, I choose not too, to avoid it if one of my faves got in a scandal I can just cut them out without feeling bad or sad about it.

not at all, i know literally nothing about them as people. i'm only here for the music they make, things like variety shows are not my thing and i have no time to watch them anyway. of course i hope all my faves are decent human beings so that i don't have to feel guilty for supporting their work but other than 2-3 idols i have absolutely no idea what kind of personalities they have.

yeah if you're specifically using the word stan and not fan, to me a stan is a hardcore fan so i don't think of a stan as someone who doesn't even know the personality of their bias group at least from an outside perspective. after all we can't ever know how much of it is a persona.

that's why i am a fan of dozens and dozens of groups but a stan of much fewer since they are the ones i invest time in (that being said i still stan too many groups)

example that i stan bts stray kids monsta x itzy basically the ones in my sig
but i am a fan of snsd gfriend gidle beast tvxq btob etc etc too many to name

i don't think @Abeamus was saying you have to be able to rattle off t heir favorite color birthday and all that though, but if you haven't even seen them interact with each other offstage or seen their personas offstage then it's like you're missing a whole half of what they are as people at least as celebrities. you don't have to know about all of them 100% but a stan should know the basics even like this member is quiet this member is loud this member is savage t his member is cuter etc

Nah there's some information I do think is pretty useless information and I wonder why it's listed like Kprofiles has blood types listed for them and just... when am I ever going to need to know my biases blood type? In terms of useless information like that the only stuff I'd consider learning is just birthdays however apart from the once a year that their birthday comes up you aren't going to ever need to remember the full date otherwise.

blood type is definitely a cultural thing, it means absolutely nothing for me and i also can't remember birthdays very well either.

I think as far as birthdays are concerned as long as you can name the members in descending order of age that's already nerdy enough to beat out any casual fan.

I mean that's as many members as the groups I stan have in total I'd probably just remember them by the sub-units rather than the entire group though since NCT normally promote in the units

i didnt kinda go into a shell after sept 30th......... only coming out for ICC and party started reintegration.
i certainly would not have never watched phantasia or the Tokyo dome for more than clips...........

I mean it's hard not to be atleast a little invested, you might not know them on a personal level but you still feel attached to them, want to see them succeed, hate when they get into ridiculous scandals etc.
I'm not saying I know how they really are off camera, but based on what they show us, I'm def emotionally invested in a few groups and my biases. That doesn't mean I'll blindly defend them if it comes out they're horrible human beings, but being a Kpop stan I don't see how anyone can be completely detached emotionally.

It's not all about the music, if I wanted just music I'd have stuck to Western music who make arguably better/more innovative songs with top notch production. It's the whole idol culture- seeing your idols outside music videos, interacting with each other on variety shows and through Vlives that keeps me in Kpop. You just have to know where to draw the line so you don't become delusional and think you actually know them, but being invested is natural and okay imo.

I try not to but I got ansty when Yoshi was flying to and from Japan last month to visit his family. I felt better after he landed back at Incheon.

That said, I am aware a person named Kanemoto Yoshinori is playing a character he and YG Entertainment invented called Yoshi to represent Yoshinori's public self.

Regarding birthdays and blood type? I remember the birth months and zodiac signs for all the members of the groups I'm interested in as well as their birth year and therefore birth order I only remember the actual birthdate of my ult and some random members. I also remember the blood type of my ult and some random members. It's usually easy to remember who is type O or type AB.

Not really, even variety shows are a pain to watch for me because I know they are freaking scripted. And I'm the last person to believe when Kpop groups speak of their so called "bond". It's just a matter of a member becoming more famous or some issue in their paychecks until everything turns into a mess. Majority of them were randomly picked and put in a group, not like they became friends naturally. They had no choice.

I agree, some not all but I will say that a large portion of kpop fans or stans are pretty gullible. I say that because when their faves screw up fans are shocked and say stuff like, " they would never do such a thing" Like keep telling yourself that lol. You would think that after all these scandals things would change, but I guess not. Watching varieties are pointless because you are basically watching a fake version of idols, and it's a real waste of time knowing that what they show on varieties isn't the real them.
