I personally prefer sad endings. It's weird but yeah I like to see that not every time everything ends on a happy note.

Honestly both, happy endings are great but not everything in life is all sunshine and rainbows. I think sad endings are more realistic and maybe even relatable depending on what happened.

Life is hard enough if i am investing time in a book or movie i want it to help me think of the good.
its easy enough to give in to the darkness i do not need to feed that with media.

I prefer sad endings because I relate more or depending on context find it realistic and relatable, and I usually end up getting connected and attached to the story and characters if it ends sadly or open-ended, but I suppose that feeds my own sadness in a way, so I do like happy endings sometimes especially when I root for the characters and am invested in envisioning a happy ending for them c:
