Does everybody look ten times worse on video? (1 Viewer)

Is it just me or does everybody in the entire world look ten times worse on camera compared to real life?

I'm over here trying to film a video for YouTube and from my perspective I look absolutely hideous. But when I look at myself in the mirror I think I look awesome lol.

Why is this? Which is a better reflection of reality? Video or a mirror or neither? Cause that shit is really pissing me the fuck off.

I think there can be lot of reasons. Like some youtubers end up having lighting and camera that makes them look even better than real life.

Actually I'm generally not a good judge of this at all...
I like seeing people in person... I do feel video is a better representation for that.. But I'm not sure...

I actually disagree with this. I look better on video than not on it.

Maybe it's just my attention to the spotlight of things or whatever.
Irl I look good too. But more so on the video side of it.

Most cameras will be using a wider angle perspective by default, meaning that it will be in essence making you look wider than you really are. There are a ton of other complexities to film and photography in general but your default options are pretty much never the most realistic ones.

I look good when i'm filming myself, I look okay when someone else is filming and I know they are, I look disgusting when someone's filming me and I don't realise >.>
