Does your family have a cottage or summer house? (1 Viewer)

or you know a cabin in the woods where you spend the weekends? Mine doesn´t, but it is a bit typical for this country that almost everyone who can afford it (middle class and so) has a cottage in the mountains or somewhere by the river so I really hope I´ll get one too one day and when I´m old I´ll live there permanently.

technically since my family lives in a very small apartment we barely have a regular house, let alone a summer/weekend one. but my elementary school friend's family has one and she used to invite me there when we were younger, it was great

ugh thanks God, I was like ... does everyone think everyone here is snobby? :D but those cottages are passed from one generations to another and they used to be supercheap in the 70s-80s so people just keep them. It is a bit harder to get a cottage nowadays but a cabin is affordable.

it is! that´s why I´d like one that is small but I can live there whole year round :D. just for the sake of becoming a forest witch :D living the dream :D

Just because someone had a cottage doesn't mean they own a flat or a house. Many people also own a cottage without electricity or running water. Again, I should state it is not a rich style.

My comment was more to do with that my mother owned nothing here in my country and couldn't not even Inherit such as her parents were immigrate with no ties to this country so it would be impossible either way, without having connections or money ( not being rich but more just having enough to purchase one not necessarily upkeeping it) here at least, not really common unless you are upper working class or higher here, or it's inherited through relatives, or you just live in the countrside and your home is just a cottage really lol
I come from poverty in the city, so it wouldnt be something that would be achievable, not even in my own life time, that's more what I meant.
I think a simple no would have sufficed but I was feeling a little more conversational lol

like I definitely know what a poverty is and in the country of my origins, not many people own a summer house or a cottage, it is more of a thing that they live in a shabby block of flats and their parents or grandparents lived in the countryside and they inherited an old house that they turned it into a "summer house". those summer houses are no fancy things (some, of course, are but most not really) and often don´t have electricity or water. that´s changing of course because most people just don´t want to spend one week without showering but still they are keeping it simple.
it´s also nothing unusual to have a very average income and own a property like that.
but I suppose it´s a very local thing and in some countries it (according to the answers) might be considered "a rich thing". here, it really isn´t :D.

Oh I know what you mean don't worry.
But Yeah especially since I live in a popular city it more associated as a 'rich' thing, compared to if you live in country side or in rural areas where its a little more normal. I don't really have family in the countryside so I wouldnt really inherit something like that or somewhere to visit.
But living in a small cottage or just having time away from the city there just seems nice tbh,
I mean you wouldn't have to pay out loads to stay in hotels on holiday and stuff. Cottages seem quite homely.
