Christopher Columbus made significant measurement errors when trying to calculate the distance between Spain and India. He believed he needed to travel 3080 nautical miles when in reality the distance was 7131 nautical miles. If the Americas werent in the way, he would have died at sea due to lack of food. Earasthotenes had already calculated the circumference of the earth to one percent, however Christoper Columbus used the values given by Alfraganus, which were not roman miles as he assumed but arabic miles. Along with those mistakes, he made significant geographic errors, stretching Asia out eastwards
Appreciate the Americas for saving him and his innocent shipmates.
