Yeah I think your 4th point is very accurate. I've seen this even with Itzy, where they actually seem to have a higher percentage of female fans lol. And female fans traditionally are good with spending money on their faves, so that alongside IDLE's slow growth and reputation as great performers might have created a perfect storm.
I think this is a really smart move by Kpop companies. I mean why waste time on a demographic that was never the backbone of the industry anyway? GG are usually more popular among the general public and more beloved (not really the most respected), so combining that with a female fanbase is genius.

I think it's more market growth than anything and 2019 could be a good place for 4th generation with the digital drop last year and physical sales going high in the past two years however the only problem is that'd mean TXT and Itzy would have to actually become strong enough to be leaders of the generation which currently they aren't.
Fanclubs, esp. C-fanclubs are really competing for those numbers and pre-order in bulk. Saw it happen with NCT 127 too, Blackpink fansites in China have already raised an enormous amount of money even though nothing's been announced yet. I think the same happened with IDLE. It's why compared to Twice and BP, the sales of other groups suffer such a big drop post Day 1. I mean Twice and BP sales post first day fall too, but they still have a less steeper drop throughout the week compared to others.
Queendom definitely helped a lot as well, but I don't think that alone would boost their sales to this extent. Compared to Mamamoo and Oh My Girl though, IDLE has a bigger i-fandom and a Chinese and Taiwanese member, so they'd have an advantage there.

Itzy still is in the best position imo, their digitals are the strongest among rookie groups by far (except IZ*ONE's Fiesta, if you consider IZ*ONE 4th gen but they won't be around long enough), their physicals are pretty good too. They're the only 2019 group to have crossed 250K sales on Gaon, which is actually more than TXT.

Of course it remains to be seen if any other GG's lifetime sales will even surpass IZ*ONE by the time they're done lmao.

ITZY does have competition from IDLE if they can maintain this momentum and success, so they aren't head and shoulders above the rest, plus the lack of any Japanese or Chinese member will probably put a ceiling on their physicals unless they break through and gain a massive C-fanbase like Blackpink. Who knows how SMNGG will fare if/when they debut.

TXT's spot is less secure imo. Ateez fandom is growing pretty rapidly and looking at how rabid Atinys are, gives me a lot of early Army flashbacks when BTS was just starting to catch fire. Not that they'll reach the same heights but they could become the top new BG with 1-2 more comebacks if they manage to gain popularity in Korea.
Dalla Dalla is a bigger hit than Fiesta so in terms of brand Itzy does have the biggest brand however the girl groups that became the national girl group all had national hits with S.E.S, Fin.K.L, Wonder Girls, Girls' Generation, Gfriend and Twice. On the physical side of things Itzy are in danger of falling behind as they aren't showing the same growth as other groups had and are showing what used to be the normal growth where they just sell a bit more and not double.

I think it's almost certain that Twice or Blackpink or both will surpass Iz*Ones sales, the only question is by how much will each grow as Blackpink could go pretty crazy with their next comeback if they actually have one.

(G)I-dle are growing into physicals monsters but digitally they're behind Iz*One at this point as Oh My God is already 32nd on Melon daily within a few days of release so they have a long way to go on digitals unless it becomes a physical focused generation.

I think Ateez might be more so like a Monsta X position where they are like top 10 for physicals amongst like 50 NCT units at this point probably but they haven't really seen a physical explosion yet to be BTS 2.0 and now NCT has 750k with a Kihno album which is ridiculous and will make it harder fo a group to break into the top area.

I usually don't care about the positions but as a fan from the 3rd Gen era its going to be fun watching this new generation take root. In terms of the girl groups I'm pleasantly surprised that IDLE is ITZY's main competition lol. I would say as a JYP gg they have the strongest position like you said, they just need to maintain their spot in Korea (increase physical sales) and find a i-fanbase, wherever it be Japan, Chinese, even American. For IDLE I'm worried just because CUBE is so shaky internally and we still have SMNGG, Big Hit NGG, Nizi(?), and perhaps even YGNGG (🙄) to go. Hopefully they can pull a semi BTS and domint the Big 3/(4)?

I really don't care for any BG right now besides BTS so I'm not really invested in what happens in that area. I also think TXT's position is unsecure. Despite what some ARMY and Blinks say, Korea is still very important. Groups don't dominate the Korean pop industry unless they also get a hold of Korea or their one in a lifetime big break in the USA is big enough to translate into worldwide success. Other then that their just popular overseas. So TXT has to do better in South Korea and for the time being I would say Ateez is their main rival, along with watching out for Treasure's debut.

*Really, how well the new YG groups will be received by South Korea, the rest of East/Southeat Asia and kpop fans, is I think the wild card for this generation right now.
YGNGG will likely take a while to get here, I mean Treasure still hasn't debuted yet :wimwim:
Speaking of who, I think they'll be received well enough on debut, and they have a J line who seem popular as well so I think YG can finally have a boy group who are strong in physicals. Can they compete and will they get enough comebacks more like :jisoosmh:
IDLE yeah, they seem to be growing, so it will be interesting to see how ITZY's next cb and the new SM group does, and if Cube pulls a Cube and fucks up IDLE's chances- so far they seem to have handled them well enough.

I think this is a really smart move by Kpop companies. I mean why waste time on a demographic that was never the backbone of the industry anyway? GG are usually more popular among the general public and more beloved (not really the most respected), so combining that with a female fanbase is genius.
True, even groups like Loona and Dreamcatcher have a ton of female fans and extremely dedicated fandoms. Other than some massive exceptions like IZ*ONE and Twice, having a male dominated fandom isn't usually a guarantee of selling well. Sure, the gp will stream and make you chart high but will they buy albums? Or attend concerts/tours? Usually not as much. Companies seem to be realizing this.

LMAO I honestly believe the next BP comeback is gonna be massive. Blinks are thirsty af, and more importantly the recent rise in physicals and groups like IZ*ONE and now IDLE getting huge numbers is sure to light a fire under their ass. I actually think they could beat Bloom*IZ.

It is hard to judge this comeback. I'd say Idle won a lot in physicals, their numbers more than doubled, they got way stronger Youtube views, expecially because there is no 1thek version this time. So their album sales are through the roof, so it is only natural was their be be less digital sales for the single in the digital charts. That said, Oh my god is special and it is hard to say if it will attract that many people outside of Neverland and if it will have longevity.
With the power of our increased fanbase because of Queendom Idle got a great start into their new Album, even so many did not know the album when they ordered it.
Let's see if Idle can accumalate many new fans with this album.

Itzy has grown their numbers, but not seen that big a jump. Their latest album Gaon numbers in a month is already more than Itz Icy sales till date, but at the most they'll probably touch around 150K. They need that one BIG comeback where the sales truly explode, they could still have that. Fans will probably go the extra mile next comeback, like Mamamoo's fans have since Queendom for the group and Moonbyul. At the moment, they certainly are in the best position to do so, except IDLE among newer groups. The lack of a foreign member could be what stops them from reaching crazy numbers but T-ara and KARA have had massive Chinese/Japanese popularity before without having a member from that country so it depends.

I meant newer groups surpassing IZ*ONE sales lol. Twice lifetime is already higher, BP could break IZ*ONE numbers if they actually get comebacks, the other groups debuting now will likely take a while.
IDLE has already overachieved beyond anyone's expectations imo. I don't think they'll hit as big as peak Twice or Blackpink, and they don't have that huge hit but being a top 3 GG is definitely within their reach.

I meant Ateez again as in newer groups, NCT 127 and Dream are doing pretty well. 127 I'd say have finally overtaken GOT7 for good and will be competing with Seventeen in their next comeback probably. The growth and SM's constant push is finally starting to yield results.

They could but only time will tell if they explode with their numbers or if they are gonna be closer to Miss A.

Well lifetime sales have variables between amount of sales and also amount of comebacks so that's something you can only really wait and see about since you can never predict how someones career will go.

While being successful amongst newer groups is all well and good, Gfriend and Twices biggest hits was their 1st comebacks, most of the top groups became something fairly quickly even Mamamoo got their breakout with their 2nd comeback and a PAK with their 3rd.

We'll see what happens in the future with the newer groups.

Yeah these newer groups are taking longer to have that huge song that just explodes. I certaintly think its because the biggest groups are still very active while most of the 2nd gen monsters were pretty inactive in 2016 when the Big 3 GG of the 3rd Gen really took off. Even BTS blew up only after BIGBANG ceased being really active.

In terms of YG I think for this generation they will actually treat them like idol singers and not like tour bands and influencers whose music is just a publicity stunt to get more brand deals and to add music to their sets. This won't be because YG likes or respects the newer groups but because of their scandals and failure of non-music activities, they will need to push out money for competitiveness to get huge returns. Not gonna lie I think YG is a corrupt company that at this point just blatantly cares about making quick money over being passionate about music so I hope other companies that still give a damn triumph but who knows with Kpop stans.

CUBE really needs to get their shit together. Really their lucky (G)I-DLE took off after they screwed over Hyuna and dropped Pentagon. Other Neveis may not like this but I think (G)I-DLE really needs to diversity out of their niche sound (not get rid of it) and produce at least some title tracks with more catchy girl crush sounds to increase their digitals. Get some other people besides only Soyeon and Yummy Toe and make a Iam the Best or Crush 3.0 2020 tune with some cool hip hop dances!

(g)i-dle world domination! i'm so proud of them, this comeback is doing really well, especially with how it can have cool message interpretations like gay anthem and trusting yourself (and i'm excited for my I Trust copy to arrive hehe)

in terms of the industry analysis topic as well, how do you guys think everglow will do? for being from a smaller, not even completely Korean company (which has been treating them well and promoting them well; good outfits, a tour - EXCEPT for the line distribution), everglow has been doing well, they've got good publicity and were talked about a lot and considered competition with itzy during adios and icy eras, they also have a Chinese member with yiren and two members who were on survival shows and have brought in fans from that (sihyeon and yiren). i would really like to see them do well in this next kpop generation, especially with their representation of girl crush, which fits really well with what we probably will see a lot in this generation, and their ability to do more dreamy concepts like bon bon chocolat and cute concepts like you don't know me and salute. recently though itzy seems to have overtaken them, with wannabe having more reach(??) than dun dun, probably due to itzy having more Korean fans (everglow has more of an international fanbase as far as i know) and the numerous promotions they did for wannabe (maybe overpromoting, as the girls looked tired by the final stages). another issue is the extremely uneven line distributions, which was probably a marketing strategy as well as yuehua's favouritism but instead throws many fans off (me kinda included). dun dun wasn't really considered strong competition with wannabe, and it was hard for them to get wins bc of bts also having a comeback on February, but they did get the advantage of being mentioned with other comebacks/debuts at the same time, like gfriend and cignature. i think it would be good for everglow to release more unique music with more variety perhaps while still keeping their classic, strong girl crush concept that they are naturals at doing and that attracts many fans and also playing with sweet concepts like no lie and cute concepts like salute as title tracks, a little like (variety-wise) what (g)i-dle have been very successful in doing, in order to compete, especially with (g)i-dle themselves as well as itzy's fresh teen crush concept and iz*one's popularity. yuehua evening out the line distribution will probably also help.
