genuine question: how do people even fall in love with someone they met online? (1 Viewer)

not to be rude but i don't think i'll ever understand how some people are able to fall in love with someone on the internet? i know that you can get to know each other first before dating but what makes you think that the person you're dating online is who they claim to be? what makes you so sure that the person isn't lying about who they actually are to you? idk maybe its just me but i don't think online dating is actually safe because i've seen wayyy too many people with fake personas on the internet

also, this is off topic but how does online dating even work?? what's the point of dating someone if you can't even go on cute dates?

Have video calls with them. Get to know them as much as possible before you even consider meeting up. And even then, when/if the time comes that you meet them IRL, always meet in a public place where there's plenty of other people about.

Yep! We met each other in the penpal section of a Japanese forum, and quickly hit it off!


Of course, 9/10 online relationships won't end up the same way that ours did. But there's always that 1/10 chance. You both just have to remain cautious at first, and also work through all the struggles if the both of you are really that determined to make things wok. Because there are a lot of hurdles that you have to get passed....

I haven't tried but I can see how it would happen. Personality is first after all for me. You can have video calls as others have mentioned, and while there are downsides there an be benefits too.
