Im only speculating wildly here, but what if they dint want to be in HYBE? Also when HYBE acquired partial Soumu shares did contracts get renegotiated or transferred to HYBE or sth? Im not rlly remembering the full details so im guessing wildly since in AU where Soumu/HYBE nvr joined up financially, i imagine Gfriend stayed in SouMu for 10 yrs n gave us 3 cbs a yr to keep us buddys well-fed for another 3/4 yrs. My imagination is running crazy.

Gfriend has been declining heavily Sunrise and last year showed that even HYBE and a concept change wasn't going to save them. Considering SouMu is gearing up to debut Hybe's new gg (or last I heard) and the girls could still profit off the Gfriend name and build solo careers now while they're young vs 3-4 years in the future, it makes sense why neither sides were too keen on staying together.

And to be honest, they just looked kind over it. A lot of 3rd gen groups are starting to get that look

My only touchstone of comparison here is Apink, both are long in the tooth ggs(comparatively speaking) who cant compete realistically speaking with the top 3 ggs of their time except maybe temporarily when they had some heat(idk if Apink ever had heat or was hot in the public eye, just tat i peripherally heard of/knew them by osmosis). Its disappointing to me tat the success/popularity/fame of Gfriend re:Me Gustas Tu nvr turned into long-lasting gp love/loyalty from more gg stans but ig tats non-big 3 disadvantage maybe. Maybe they just outgrew the infatuation the fans/gp had for their cute/innocent eras? Im in love with their evolution Crossroads/Labyrinth -> Apple -> Mago, but nobody will know if their concept change/growth killed the chances of Gfriend's endurance as a group/staying in Soumu, or wat factors/or all of them actually killed Soumu/Gfriend OT6 staying together. Like you say, maybe its just their time/clock ran out.Nobody will ever know the full why for sure, ig. Take all this with grains of salt-all is will speculation from my imagination.:yeonstare;except my disappointment/sadness of Gfriend's fate from this news is true.(now i can kinda empathise with 2NE1's fans a little bit over their end, with a whimper not a bang). Or so it seems rn. Maybe it will hv a satisfying conclusion tho.

This is really interesting. And you'd think after releasing the best song of their career we'd get to see more, but I completely understand the girls. GFRIEND achieved more than enough, they established Source Music, managed to snatch a deal with HYBE, I just hope the girls have plans for the rest of their careers.

Confused at how long their contracts were given they debuted in January but expire in May so they're either in between 6-7 or they signed them way before their debut. As far as their status goes Apple still sold 90k even if their digitals have been weak since Time For The Moon Night however digitals barely mean anything nowadays as you can count groups who consistently chart well on one hand so they weren't doing bad in the grand scheme of things and only were in comparison to their previous position.

Focusing on their solo careers is the right decision but this will harm their potential growth as they'll lose the majority of the fandom and likely end up struggling as many other girl groups who've tried this have done. I'd rather for their sakes that they're just done with being idols as without the group name they're more than likely going to struggle breaking into anything else.

Maybe as part of the deal early on.
So Mu taking care of them to the end in case the merger did not bring a renewal of popularity.

Plus it would suck going from the team that put the food on the table/and the company on the map to one that at best buys the kimchi in the org.

I knew the merger was going to be awful for them.
big hit is good for big hit groups only. the fans like many so called company fans are typically focused only on the primary group.

Sales actually dropped from a time for us.

SotS was a bit of an uptick but they girls never did break 100k

which is just sad.
