Its complicated, i first learned of such a thing as kpop many yrs ago when a kpop scandal was on my yahoo news feed. Then a few yrs l8r, BoA then Rain popped up as solo kpop (debuts?) or BoA was a big korean hit in Japan, too many yrs ago to rmbr.
Korean movies popped off in Asia ard the mid-late 2000s so i bought n watched a handful of dvds if korean movies.
Then in 2009 SNSD Gee popped up on my yahoo feed, n i was momentarily into SNSD for a bit(when i rmbrd to watch/sthg popped up to remind me), i rmbr i liked Gee n ITNW.
But it wasnt until 2018, when i randomly (not so random my teen niece was rlly into kpop) tat i searched for kpop dance n i watched Lisa n BP on knowing bros clip. Next rec was Seohyun n snsd. I kept watching n slowly got pulled in. I rmbrd snsd from intermittently watching in the 9 yrs when i was reminded/jogged my memory in those 9 yrs to watch gee, itnw, genie, tts, sica leaving, tss out of sm n i slowly got pulled in. But difference was i googled n was engrossed in it.i was dumb b4 n dint realise there was google, youtube n forums/soshified in 2009 n after(i was also younger n stupid, i may hv not spent time even if i knew then).
Tldr: either 2009 or 2018 depending
