I actually think that's the sensible think to do. It's extremely unlikely for any "happy birthday to...." kind of message posted here to reach the birthday person. So I actually always want to go to their twitter account and post it there, where there is a chance for them to reach them. I don't know how to write a simple "happy birthday" in Korean, but I know how to write it in Japanese; so if they are Japanese, I usually take a few minutes to tweet it.
