pre-1999: just whatever my parents listened to (mainly oldies from the '60s and '70s)
1999-presend: I phased out of oldies and started listening to more current music. for six years, all I listened to was what they played on one of two pop stations in my area (well, one of them, a more rock leaning pop station, has since changed formats, but there's still the other one)
2005-present: I added alternative to my favorites, thanks to that rock-leaning pop station
2011-2012: a contestant on Idol got me into metal, my most shortlived genre. I soon came out of that era when I realized I wasn't beong myself music-wise and just listening to metal bc of an Idol contestant who got eliminated before the finale anyway. lol
2011-present: country music became one of my favorites. I was in denial for a bit and would only listen to country music from talent show artists, but then a couple of years after that, I finally started listening to it for real
2011-2014, 2019-2021: I went through a Christian music era. Not as shortlived as metal, but still shortlived compared to my other genres
2020-present: K-pop!!!
2024-present: I added R&B and hip-hop to my music library. I still wouldn't listen to a hip-hop station without wanting to pull my hair out, but I do like some of it.
