I like jrpgs, and they can famously have some slow starts, but my latest game, I'm 6 hours into and still not enjoying it. There are so. many. cutscenes. I wish it would get out of its own way and let me play the dang thing.

I think I might be in that 5-10 hour range for long games, but puzzle games or games where it's immediately obvious what the gist is (e.g. farming sims or whatever), if I don't like it basically immediately, I nope out. It shouldn't take 5+ hours for a puzzle game to get good.

The only game I play is Star Stables (it's nostalgic, don't judge me). I basically played it every day for a whole week so I knew I liked it
I've never heard of it! I do like a game that hooks you like that. I tend to bounce around, though. I want to sink a bunch of time into a game and then do something else.

If a game can't grab my interest from the start, I stop playing it after the first level at the latest. But more often there's the problem that a game starts strong and gets too repetitive over time. When I can predict the next Jump-Scare in a horror game (hello dark corridor with flickering lights #150!), the developers did something wrong.

it's a horse game where you solve quests. You can play it on pc or via apps.
You can play for quite a few days in the free demo.

same tbh, but this one has me hooked

I usually only get games I know or do research of gameplay so I know it through and through before getting it. So I don't really have that issue lol. I mostly stop playing if I just get stuck at a bit.

But I do have to admit, I also do hate reading walls of text. Genshin Impact to me is a visual novel. Their story quests are hours long all because it's unskippable. Luckily other Hoyo games now have the skip button apart from Genshin...

come to think of it I download games too often :maheart:
they're mostly for vacations honestly like on the 15-ish hour flight to china I'd open a no wifi game and start playing
soooo I have like 10 apps sitting around cuz I kinda forget about them after vacation, but then I play them again the next time :crycry:

Offline games: 2 or 3 hours
Online games: 30 minutes

Offline games are usually more appealing to me, I can play them for a long time and even if they aren't my cup of tea, I like to see where the story goes etc.

Online games are hit or miss and there isn't any story to hook me in. After one game, I think it's enough for me to know.

I recently started a game and got about 30 minutes into the tutorial when I got stuck. I’m not saying for sure that I won’t continue ever, but the tutorial kinda just feels like a lot. I was mostly interested because of its relation to history

I normally rely on either solid reviews or franchise staples (e.g. Legend of Zelda has no bad games). But I think I got burned on this one, because it's a spin-off of a game (which I knew) and reviewers really downplayed how far it deviated from the series standard. Like it's fine if you happen to like all those things too, but it's not what I was looking for, you know?

I don't mind a visual novel, but I have to know that I'm mostly going to be reading a game rather than playing it, going into it, lol. :lisalaugh: Otherwise, let me play the game! Seems like Genshin has that issue too... it needs get out of its own way!

Yeah, or sometimes you pick a sequel of a game and then you are suddenly hit by all the changes they made to the system which then makes you prefer the version that came before it lol. Like Final Fantasy X and then the jump to X-2 was odd to me suddenly an active battle system instead of taking your time to make your move. Still love pretty much all Final Fantasy games tho, have yet to play FF XVI as I don't own a ps5.

if I keep having to go back to the beginning of a level bc I died lol As a teen, I played these Powerpuff Girls games on GBC - I eventually aced Blossom's game, but Bubbles'??? :jisoosmh: I kept having to repeat a certain level over and over and over bc it was so dang hard! I mean, she was the sweet, easygoing one - why couldn't the game be like her??? So no, I never did try Buttercup's game. lol

I have to really know before diving in if I want to invest my time with the game. I tend to go for story driven ones, so I have to watch trailers and solid reviews to get myself motivated. If I'm playing for more than an hour, it's all set for me :sanapray:

...an hour :hyungwontea:
i'm not heavily into games as i was like 2-3 years ago when my embarassing genshin impact phase was a thing, but i remember my friends at that time trying to convince me to play multiple other games and i'd get easily bored of them because the characters were either talking too much or there was too much you had to do in order to get into the main quests.
