I was thinking about this due to a discussion in Czennie twt where some people are saying they haven't liked anything from NCT 127 in several years and a number of other people are like "if you haven't liked anything in several years, why are you still stanning?"
(It was certainly strange to me because I think in general their skills have gotten stronger as rappers, vocalists and performers, making the songs stronger IMO, and the disco is very vast, spanning many different genres, so it's odd to me for you not to have found ANYTHING in 3 whole damned years. I mean I'll let you have it that maybe you haven't liked a title track in a minute, but nothing? With those bsides? Plus it's odd to me that you want a group known for constant innovation and boundary pushing to go back to what they did four years ago..like that's contrary to the group's whole ethos.) But it did get me thinking..at what point do you tap out?
I think there are some great points made in this thread about the way you're more forgiving for groups you've been with for awhile. Like ok, maybe the next one vs groups you haven't built that trust up with. Or maybe I'd just drop into casual superfan vs stan, like I am with RV. I don't like the Red songs so I've never felt I could stan the group when I dislike half of their music. Yet RV is also the gg I have the most songs of in my playlists because I do like them a lot - I have 49 RV songs in my playlist, which I think makes me more than just a casual fan.
What I usually find is that even if I don't like some songs, there are usually good enough songs to still keep me interested - I was disappointed with Glitch Mode as a whole (because Hot Sauce was so exceptional!), but there are still some phenomenal tracks on that album like Arcade and Teddy Bear. (Tbf tho, if NCT Dream keeps trucking in the Candy direction because it's so successful, I might be back to stanning all of NCT but them.

Although even on that album with a tt I genuinely loathe, there is the fantastic Tangerine Love!)
