How old where you when you started to like Kpop (1 Viewer)

I had heard of Kpop in 2020's I think. maybe earlier than that in 2019? but I wasn't much of a person who listen to music then. I was just watching DIY's and games then. Then in 2024 I got into it very much!!!

2010 i may have heard sorry sorry and lollipop in 2009 (liked the one hated the other) but it was not until i saw RDR>Oh!>Gee in a row in 2010 that within weeks i was full on focused on SNSD. I consumed 100's of hours of content that year.
As to how old i was......lets say the car i was driving was 8 years old and it was the 2nd car i bought new ordered from the factory.( btw i still have it)

I got into Kpop early 2010 somewhere in january. A friend had linked me an MV of SNSD - Gee. I orignally didn't like it at first, but I did check out Oh! and that song kept playing in my head. Before I knew it I was into Kpop and quickly started checking out all kind of groups of back then. Kara, T-ara, Jewelry, Brown Eyed Girls, Super Junior, Shinee, JYJ and many more.

The SNSD part is very similar to how I got into Kpop(in 2010). I remember being on Soshified and downloading a lot of shows they starred in. I downloaded the full Invincible Youth season 1 because of Sunny and Yuri being in it. So like you I have probably invested a lot of hours into watching their content like that. I also remember buying my very first Kpop photobook. Which was the one of SNSD in Japan, the cover is them on a beach holding hands.

I got into K-Pop almost exactly a decade ago (March 2016), so I was 13.

somewhere between 2015-2016 so i was 14/15, imo it was the best time to get into kpop as most all-time greats were still active and the newest groups were also musically interesting. if i missed that era and only discovered kpop right now, i wouldn't be interested at all.

Hard agree, though I can find some songs I like every so often. I'm a casual listener, though. My stanning is mainly reserved for just SNSD now.

I have that. My first albums were the 'pink ' album and RDR repack( since it had like everything from 2009 also) i ordered near the same time RDR got here first (Yoona poster Taeyeon card i so scored and didnt know it p) i have had to rebuy the pink album 2 times since i wore them out listening in my car going to and from work.

It's really cool that you got into SNSD at such a late stage in their careers, it shows the legacy they've created and that you have great taste.

I hope we both get a chance to attend one of their concerts before they're done, they've been talking about something big for the 20th anniversary.

When I saw Itzy there was like 1 other person who looked my age and maybe 3 other men, it was a double whammy of awkwardness but everyone was kind and I even ended up having a conversation with the young girl next to me which almost never happens (I'm very introverted). When I saw Twice it was a much more even split but that was in Korea and I think the culture there is more accepting of it.

Ultimately I've never had any poor treatment or even weird glances (and I'm super attentive of my surroundings) at a concert so my conclusion is most K-Pop fans get it and don't care, it's only none-fans who would say something negative about it. Ironically I think telling somebody to "grow up" up for not fitting into their perceived standard of adulthood is a real sign of immaturity, imo, real maturity is being able to embrace your inner child but knowing when and where.

I'm seeing Nmixx in about a month so here's hoping my experience doesn't change.

I first got into K-pop in 2017, but it wasn't a full-blown obsession until three years later.

I think 2017 is the year I got into K-pop, as I remember there being a huge trend of tropical/house style songs when I was first getting into K-pop, all the Kard prereleases, Winner Really Really, Exo Ko Ko Bop etc
