I feel like a lot of things I want to do in life (is held back by my family) (1 Viewer)

Like if they weren't SO narrow minded my folks. I could do what I want to. (But I can't)
Not to say I don't do my own thing at all, far from it.

But they always 'make' drama whenever I want to do something.
I know they lived in a different period and culture than my own. But yeah. (times change and they don't seem to acknowledge or care for it)

Like my step mum is Vietnamese and she has her views which make me mad and then there is my birth mum who is Thai who is chilled with everything.
they don't like each other at all.

Do you guys ever get held back, because of what your parents have to say about something you care about?

I am glad that I personally have a great relationship with my mom and stepdad.

My bio dad and I haven’t really been in contact for years. I do think distancing myself when I got older from that part of my family has helped me to not get so stucked.

I have a decent/good relationship with most of my nuclear family, but I still feel like my parents hold me back.

I think my family is mostly holding me back in terms of how much assistance they need from me. Often I don't mind, but sometimes it's just tiring and too much.

My parents haven't been around me much, so even if they do spoil things I like or respect, at least I can be alone from them.
I am not close with either of my P's. Dad is distant and mum is always hiding something.

I just hope they don't raise their other kids (my half siblings) with the same view on life.
I would hate, like realllly hate to see that.

My parents have learnt to respect that I'm an individual before I'm their daughter, and while they can't understand everything due to generation differences or expectations, I would still say they're good parents. There's mutual respect between them and myself.

I would just do and like what I want. Because I did that, slowly but surely, my parents have changed their views. Not that they were ever narrow minded, they just lacked an understanding.
