In the end it worked out for him for sure, living a nice happy end of his life with the elves sounds rather pleasing, and definitely better than getting eaten by Gollum

In The Hobbit Bilbo is playing a riddle game with Gollum. He has a magic ring in his pocket and says out loud on accident “What have I got in my pocket?” And that means Bilbo managed to escape the riddle game because Gollum couldnt guess what it was (though it did lead to Gollum trying to kill him because he realized it was the magic ring that belonged to him but Bilbo escaped because he could tune invisible with the ring.
