La llorona is a mexican folktale about a woman who would go on to drown her children.
Okay so La Llorona translates to 'The weeping woman' in english.
One day in her village she saw a man she wanted to marry right??
So she married him!!
They had 2 kids, 2 boys i think idk
and they lived happily ever after, NO!!
And he started going on long trips with him "work buddies"
but La Llorona found out he was cheating on her !!
so she drowned her kids because she wanted nothing to do with them
then she (tw suicide) drown herself bc she was sad
now she lurks in all of the rivers and lakes and ponds around ur home

I actually had read a book that had her as the mentor to the protagonist (Summer of the Mariposas by Guadalupe Garcia McCall) and then another text that was exclusively about how La Llorona came to be to write an essay (that I couldn't complete 😳).

Frankly idk where to get a copy of the book but if you want to read a young adult adventure story with Latin-American myths intertwined with the modern world this might be for you.
