Not only was it the end of gfriend.

It signaled the end of the pre covid model for gg.

Girl groups who survived with a small core of loyal fans and used lots of event promoting / concerts to make money just cannot make it any more.

Now it will require direct income from the comeback to make the group viable.

What that number is remains to be seen.

But i would expect future gg to quit much sooner maybe 3 years max if magic does not strike.

Now it will require direct income from the comeback to make the group viable.
Income from comebacks and/or nonmusical sources such as CFs and other commercial tie-ins.

The latter will require a parent company with connections, though. Which is why Aespa and ITZY are able to do these.

But i would expect future gg to quit much sooner maybe 3 years max if magic does not strike.
I'd expect far fewer girl groups to debut.

Prior to COVID the gg market was oversaturated anyway. There were several groups that looked like they did not have enough funding to get a first MV done properly.

Does not bode well for the Rocket punch/ Cherry bullet/ Purple kiss s of the word.

And the population dynamics is going to start forcing them to look out ward.
