From what we can see, they try to get every member into a permanent unit sooner rather than later! Meaning you will be mostly promoting with a normal amount of members for an idol group!

WayV members aren't competing with 127 members for lines, becaaauuuuseee they aren't singing together with 127 members in most of the songs. When NCT 2020 etc DOES come around yearly or every other year or whatever, you will get to be in NCT U songs, once again, with the usual amount of members for an idolgroup!

This is such a pet peeve of mine, like just.... they aren't competing with 22 members for lines!
They just aren't!

Sure maybe you can say they are competing with 22 members to get into NCT U songs, but that is SO DIFFERENT, since SM clearly spread the members out across NCT U so that everybody was in at least 1 NCT U song (and most were in more)

NCT isn't one big group, it is 3 groups that do a lot of collabs! (and share some members)

nct u is a rotational experimental unit from what I've seen. kinda like sm stations, random members do collabs or whatever.

and then nct dream is a fixed unit.

whenever I see that nct is adding another member i just think "oh just another nct member". if I was training for that long id want to be in a different group entirely and not apart of the nct brand, not because nct is bad but because of the fact that there are already so many members and there are obvious members that have gained a shit ton of popularity compared to less popular ones. id just want to be apart of something new and not a group that debuted in 2016!
also, I'm not saying that all 100 members would be performing together if nct ever went that far, that was more of a hyperbole. I'm just saying that at a certain point how many times are people gonna get excited for another nct member?

I mean considering NCT is modelled after the jpop brand/group Exile Tribe, I'd say quite a damn while!

And I would actually say that NCT currently only has 2 main units, 127 and WayV!
Dream was never suppose to be a main unit and even tho it is made fixed now, it is still rotational to allow members to be away from the group promote with other ones. It is widely thought that the Dream members will all eventually get added to main groups as well.

And looking at it atm.... Both Shotaro and Sungchan have gotten a LOT of hype from fans, so it isn't as if new members struggle to get recognized. It isn't as if members are being added in 10 at a time, it's always been 2-3 members together, giving the new members space to shine and allowing ppl to get to know them easier.

This also means that when they debut a new unit, fans already know some of the members going into the group and with that the group will have fans from the start, the group won't have to build from 0.

Debuting a new NCT unit is literally like debuting a new group! That is just how I look at it! NCT is a brand more than a group.

I doubt it would fail considering kpop fans are kinda weirdly attached to their idols. i mean like actually attached they think they are friends.
itll get even worse with the boy groups considering that fangirls are usually more loyal and more attached.
