not good especially given that I'm being backstabbed by own nephew!!!Yes, of course you are. How's it losing control over SM? 🤡
Really smart move by @SelfmateStaging a coup was probably the wrong way to handle it and LSM is being very smart to spin the whole scenario (poor old man with injured arm being put out and not consulted etc etc and earning sympathy) but the idea of eliminating the bottleneck to not only allow for more frequent releases but additional artist input is vital in stabilizing the company’s future and particularly in a marketplace that emphasizes self production.
all the many idols locked up in their dungeons, are used to work on this project...All I'm thinking is does YG plus have the capability to distribute basically 75% of all k-pop albums released yearly??
I think for SM, LSM was making a lot of money from his separate production company deal so it's understandable why he would do what he did and want the status quoReally smart move by @Selfmate
On a more serious note, I always wonderd how those bottlenecks occure in the first place, I mean its the same (or probably a lot worse) in YG. By saboting all their artists in this way, the companies are hurting themselfs, yet they seem to do not do anything about it, its baffling really
JYP was the only big 3 company who introduced a system similar to what SM 3.0 is supposed to be earlier on (actually they started with the debut of Twice according to the speech he gave for JYP 2.0). So I really wonder how the rest could sleep this long and be stuck in their way with very little production capablities. Its really a great example how people at the top get very complacent
but in your first example at least, this was not even the corporate interests of the company (SM), but only LSMs own interests, so the fans + SM company got screwedI think for SM, LSM was making a lot of money from his separate production company deal so it's understandable why he would do what he did and want the status quo
you must remember that the corporate interests of a company might not necessarily align with the interests that a fan has...
nobody got screwed - they got the benefit of the Paver of the Way!!!but in your first example at least, this was not even the corporate interests of the company (SM), but only LSMs own interests, so the fans + SM company got screwed
it does not shed a very positive light on you, I have to say
I do not want to discredit whatever he did, but if they can't produce music to feed all their arists, they need change something. In my mind at least, that does not mean they can't use his input any longer, just add more people to the process that can support it. I kinda thought thats the idea of SM 3.0nobody got screwed - they got the benefit of the Paver of the Way!!!
do you think SM would have existed but for me? of course not...and thus it's a cost of doing business
jokes aside I generally think that the artists at SM do at least to my knowledge (I could be wrong) like LSM???
people forget that as executive producer he literally created and was the person responsible for every single group and soloist that debut there
but I also understand that LSM might be seen as a legacy of the past so to speak - he came from the time when 13 year contracts were the thing apparently

Lee Soo Man on his system of management, upcoming groups M1 & M2, and his dreams
SM Entertainment s mastermind, Lee Soo Man (60), recently sat down with Chosun for an interview, where he revealed his thoughts on a variety of topics, including his management system, his new groups M1 and M2 , and his possible venture…omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com
maybe LSM can only carry SM so much and that newer and fresher blood is needed and SM needs a new direction away from the " same old same old"
I dunno which is the right answer - hindsight is always 20/20 right? if SM succeeds with hybe then one will say OMG LSM was a genius and he was right all along and if it fails did it mean that chris lee and SM 3.0 was the right call??? (and vice vera for the reverse situation)
Success definitely breeds complacency. SM had two monster groups in SNSD and EXO. NCT was slower to start but finally had momentum and aespa was white hot out the gate. Add in ongoing $$ from legacy groups like TXVQ, Shinee and RV and there is little impetus to change what’s worked for you all these years.Really smart move by @Selfmate

It’s evident many of the artists respect and admire him, while simultaneously chafing about the limits of the system (artistic control, slowness of releases). The fact that so many SM artists resign - and big successful ones at that - is testament to what we don’t see that happens behind the scenes IMO.nobody got screwed - they got the benefit of the Paver of the Way!!!

this kind of stuff maybe works when you have 2 or 3 artists under your label, but once you get more, you would expect the company to realise this is not feasable anymoreI am reminded of a point Kun made about “Rain Day” where he said every song had to be approved by Yoo Young-Jin (he was happy to have his approved and with minimal edits), but I thought to myself at the time, no wonder it takes so long for things to get out - there are so many artists for every song to get the ok of one dude and not slow things down (esp since he’s also producing and writing songs. Okaying songs is not the only thing he’s doing)
