You have no reason to feel morally superior.
Never thought this needed saying but I've surprisingly seen this.
If you defend the rights of LGBT people but will hate on people for their race, you are not automatically a good person.
If you defend the rights of black people but will hate on people for the country they were born in, you are not automatically a good person.
If you defend the rights of people who are foreigners but will hate on people who are LGBT, you are not automatically a good person.

I don't care if your family is bigoted. I don't care if your entire society is bigoted. That doesn't give you an excuse to be that way, and least of all does it give you the right to feel better than others for being a bigot. You can judge them all you want. You can disagree with them. You can defend others to the moon and back. But if you are a bigot who feels the need to hate on others for being a different type of bigot, you need to look at yourself first because you are no better.

There are instances when criticism within a sub-culture of a population should be warranted, but discrimination based on ascribed statuses should not be acceptable. I do think--however--it goes beyond simple bigotry. Some people have a tendency of making things about themselves. Say a Muslim terror organization or individual associated with such organization goes on a murder spree of homosexuals the first response should be horror or disgust. It should not be questioning (with the intent of disproving) whether religious extremism is to blame. The focus should be on justice for the victims not on trying to relieve your guilt, which is misplaced as an action of one member doesn't really say anything about another member of a group of 1.2 Billion people. Or a christian terror group for that matter. St. John Chrysostum is a beloved Catholic saint, but lets be honest he was a piece of sh*t that basically influenced greatly the homophobia of the church and making direct comments about how homosexuals should be stoned. While, to my knowledge he didn't stone anyone, that is still an extreme viewpoint that is not excused based on religious belief, which I believe was one of your main points.

Nope, it was a much less extreme case. Someone implied that I was racist unjustly based on things I never said, while the same person has talked about their hatred for Russians (like me) and talked about their relatives saying that Russians are only good if they're dead. Stuff like that.
