So, what do you think about parents agreeing to save money for their child's wedding but because the child is marrying someone of the same sex, the parents will now use that money to renovate their home instead?

Do you agree with the parents who won't pay for their Daughters wedding just because she is marrying another girl? Or do you think this is selfish and untrustworthy of them?

I find the whole concept of parents paying for their child's wedding weird but apparently that's normal in a lot of cultures...
Honestly, this is sad. If she wasn't filial and never cared for them or whatever not, then I would agree with them using the money on themselves instead of their undeserving child but if she was a good daughter all her life and they just decided they don't want to support her because of who she chose to love, then that's just tragic. I don't understand how parents just stop loving their children just because they do something they don't like. Makes you wonder if the concept of "unconditional love" is just fiction tbh.

personally, I'd never expect my parents to pay for my wedding, like why would they need to..... but if these parents would normally do it but won't because of their daughter's sexuality, I don't find that okay although it's their right....

They were originally gonna pay for her college anyway but the Daughter got a scholarship, so the parents were going to give her the money to spend, so the Daughter said that she wanted them to save it for her wedding day and the parents agreed, so when the Daughter chose to marry a woman and not a man, the parents said that she wasn't having it anymore.

At the end of the day it is their money.
The optics are not good though.

Part of the issue is who weddings are really for.
The couple
the parents
the family.
the bride
many cases the thing is just a big flex by the family.

I would guess this is a case where it was a parents show piece.

personally there are far better ways to spend money than on a wedding.

i don't even know these people but watching that video made me feel so bad for their daughter. of course i would understand them not paying for the wedding if they couldn't afford it or something but the fact that they refuse to pay solely because she's marrying a woman is definitely homophobia. and then she even has the audacity to call her own daughter ungrateful... as if anyone would be grateful for having homophobic parents.

I wouldn't pay for my son or daughters wedding at all since I see a wedding as a personal want and not a necessity so they can pay for it themselves or borrow the money and pay me back at least but that'd be just on if I think their relationship is healthy and can last since if they tell me they've only been dating 3 months then I wouldn't pay for that.
