i dont think its the new gen rn. i think we're still in an awkward phase between generations and these groups are kinda like how exo was back in 2011 and called flops cause of all the success of 2nd gen groups. 2014-2015 was the real start of 3rd gen for me. all the new groups dont really surprise me or change the game in anyway. exo, bts, twice, bp, rv, mamamoo etc. are still the top groups and we're not really getting any progress. i dont see the hype with the newer groups anyway. they just have better debut mvs due to advanced technology and better styling than 2nd/3rd gens. theyre all doing well but i dont think theres significant change. what defines a start of a new gen for you?

I consider EXO to be the first 3rd gen group tbh, along with groups like AOA and BAP while Girls' Day, Apink are kinda like the in-between groups between generations. Growl is like the first big 3rd gen song for me which came in 2013, also the year BTS debuted.

I definitely feel 2019 is the start of a new gen, or you could say the end of 2018 when IZ*ONE debuted. And this year JYP, YG, BigHit and maybe even SM soon will all be debuting new groups, the idols are mostly all born in 2000 or later and Kpop is more international then it's ever been. I definitely feel we're at the start of the 4th gen.

For me, I think we're in the transitioning phase. I think groups like LOONA, IZONE, GIDLE, etc are probably still just late 3rd gen. but I think ITZY and Cherry Bullet are probably early 4th gen. I think that 4th gen., while it's begun, just won't truly take over until a few years. Kinda like how even though 3rd gen. technically started in 2012 according to most people, SNSD was still the top girl group, and it wasn't till 2014-ish when new groups really started to take over. So we're in 4th gen. but Twice and BTS and other 3rd gen. groups will still be successful for a while until it really feels like 4th gen.

Yeah like BigBang, SNSD, 2NE1 were still popular even though the 3rd gen started and BTS/Twice only truly took over and became top groups in 2016 when the 3rd gen was already underway.
