i struggle to pay for a game over and over. WoW i understand since it was a subscription from the start. but for a decade + now they have Microsoft disease. ie the initial release SUCKS then eventually they patch it. i am so annoyed even though i bought the top level of midnight i may cancel pre launch. 3 k is enough.
Like the reason i have played a game for 20 years is that is familiar .. yet they keep messing with it . i HATE relearning every class over and over. And yet another stat squish.....

And i reallly really get annoyed at having to pay for music that i have purchased in multiple formats before. A big reason i refuse spotify or any of the streaming services.

Ad free streaming plans. Technically the base version was ad free and great when Netflix and Hulu were the only streaming services so idk if this counts. Plus, XD I dont pay for any streaming services. Theyre ridiculously overpriced when you want to watch a show here or there and you have to hop across different network giants with a $20 entrance fee for some of them???

I do get the base Netflix plan with my cell provider, which now >.> has ads and half the shows are behind a premium subscription. o.o
Brooklyn 99 for example is on Netflix. A year ago it was seasons 1-5 only. Now it's 3-6??? What is this???
With a vpn to canada, all 8 seasons show up.

But if you do have netflix with ads
chrome + ublock extension = 0 ads on netflix
Goplay for cdrama and kdramas

But honestly, just get yourself a movieboxpro sub. They have everything for a couple of bucks. Including all 8 seasons of brooklyn 99 :)

Things that have been deliberately made worse like you said, i.e YouTube creating artifical lag for users with ad-blockers and throwing minute long ads every 5 min on people without it, or resorting to tricks like "you'll see less ads in the future if you watch these" which was a blatant lie. I understand advertisement is necessary to turn a profit but it's the sleezy practices that get me.

In gaming there are things like day 1 DLC which is content that is cut from the base game to create additional purchases, the industry has also come together to try and and push the base price for a triple A game to 70 or 80€ instead of 60 which was already more expensive that it needed to be. I won't support any of this.

There are also some companies I don't support on principle. Bottom line is - respect me and I will support you because I want to, squeeze me and I will do everything in my power to get your content for free or not at all.

Streaming services and spotify.

Recently I found that on the mobile app, they introduced such bs they limit how many songs I can skip or try and then it's a damn shuffle, I despise that, I'm on a music app and you don't even let me listen to what I want??? Just SAY you only want premium users

Weirdly enough I do love Spotify on web version with brave, not sure why they don't fuck with that too, no ads + ui is way better and I can listen all day without being given limits.its strange I hate the idea of paying for Spotify premium when they make the free tier so incredibly bad on purpose but with all my playlists on Spotify and it being good at getting me stuff I like, if it ruins the web version, I'll be forced to pay just to enjoy my music

You reminded me too of a board game I saw recently. I was watching a review of it, and thought "this sounds cool" and then the reviewer showed that the board game, not even launched yet, already had SIXTEEN expansions available for purchase. It just made me totally disinterested in it.

most things that exist lmao but especially television/movie streaming services - i try to watch movies solely in theaters and it usually works for movies i'm interested in so if there happens to be one deliberately not released in theaters at all them i'm not going to pay for it

Back in the day you had to ship a game stable and feature complete because it wasn't so easy to update it, now thanks to always-online features games have become so commercialized. What was once expansion packs that hugely expanded on popular games have become expected micro-transactions and subscription models and companies get away with shipping unfinished products because Day 1 patches are expected, but old games prove that it doesn't have to be like that - it's pure laziness and we're enabling it. Early access is the worst for me, it's become so normalized that those of us who want to wait and enjoy the finished product often have to wait years because game developers are financially disincentivized to end it.

The easiest way to fix something is for people to stop paying for it, but because people age while companies do not you eventually end up with a generation for whom this is the norm and those people will even defend it. I sound like a bitter old man.. But it really is sad to remember sometimes.
