Starting from today (14th June) a new law has come into effect in Japan to combat ticket scalpers.

If a ticket scalper is caught reselling a ticket to a concert, sporting event etc above the original price set by the event organiser. The scalper could face either 1 year in jail, $10,000 fine or both!

This is fantastic news and hopefully more countries will follow Japan's lead in combating these ticket scalpers!

Btw Japan is already quite strict on resales of tickets. At a lot of major events will have the buyers name printed on the tickets. This also goes for concert tickets which have been sold to official fan club members (such as Twice, AKB48 etc). And quite often you will be asked for ID and if the name on the ID and the ticket don't match up then you would be denied entry to the venue!

i love ticket resale's its darn near impossible to get seats when they are gone in a min. Even worse when the event is in a different country.
I have the money and am willing to pay.
Shoot i resold my extra WS tickets( my friend and i ended up connecting and buying at the same time.)
I do not mind paying ~ 2x with fees.

The resale of tickets won't be made illegal.

This is just to prevent scalpers from buying the tickets and reselling them at a ridiculous price. You'll still be able to buy tickets at their original price from genuine fans who can no longer attend the concert.

we will have to see
1 no one is going to host a web site to do that if they cant make money.
2 maybe shipping and handling fees go way up.
3. even in the us when i bought tickets from the organizers they cost well over face value, so resaleing them at face value would be a loss.
my rv tickets in the us ended up costing $30-50 more than face value. 170.00 seats were over 200 dollars delivered to me.

In general there isn't as much of an issue with scalpers in Japan. This new law was enacted ahead of the Summer Olympics next year to combat scalpers from reselling tickets to the games at a inflated price. But the law covers all areas.

No doubt scalpers will still try and get around the law though.... Gambling is illegal in Japan. So to get around it at pachinko parlours (as an example) you'll be given a prize which you trade for money at the back of the establishment.
But hopefully the new law will make it even harder for scalpers to resell tickets at sky high prices like we have seen for BTS as an example.

----

Also resale sites always slap on their own handling fees. So even if the seller is selling them at the original price. The website that you're buying from will make the tickets more expensive than the original price. And that sounds like case for the RV tickets that you brought.

Pretty sure most people do mind though. Hence why this is good.

I'd love to attend at least one of the already scarce Europe concerts, but I never could because the tickets were sold so fast and there were a ton of scalpers afterwards. Like there's no way I'd be willing to spend hundreds upon hundreds on a concert ticket. especially since I'd have to book plane tickets and accommodation also
I so wish this law was applied here too. :sadcat:

Damn this is a very useful law. I’d like it to be applied here, in Europe, as well xD so the tickets won’t be sold out in half an hour...

I remember when the Blackpink tickets went on sale and almost instantly they were appearing on sites like Viagogo at inflated prices....

Like mentioned before, Japanese laws regarding ticket reselling are really strict. Even for university sponsored field trips, you cannot trade or give up your ticket because sometimes the school will get insurance for you as well.

I think it’s a good thing and maybe they’ll start selling more concert tickets through Lawson and Family Mart (Japanese convenience stores are well known for their excellent quality and variety of products).
