TBH with this context I don't think he was trying to be insulting to BTS. One can compare BTS making fans super excited and in some cases even faint at the sight of them unto a fever and one can say that is contagious because it happens to allot of people, hence the covid reference. Ill admit under the circumstances being that allot comedians and late night host, use people as the punchlines for hurtful jokes and Asians over the pandemic have been placed into allot of jokes about covid19 i get why some might think that but i don't think the tone of this comment is representative of that. I think it was a joke that was badly placed, that all. and I don't think he is saying BTS represent covid and death. But hey I could be wrong...

he only spoke about BTS, didn't mention ARMYs even once in the sentence and if he insulted the fandom then it would be just as pointless because the actress he interviewed said it herself that she was an ARMY. no matter how "toxic" they may be seen as, a fandom (especially one of an asian group) should not be compared to a pandemic who took away people's lives.

I don't like Jimmy, he's never been funny but I don't think he was trying to mock them? Adding the word “fever” after anything that’s popular or desirable is a common expression in the west. She thought the shock she felt was because she was so happy about being noticed by BTS but she was actually having COVID symptoms so calling it ''BTS fever'' sounds more like playing with words (which fits the context) than mocking them. Maybe I could be wrong about it though and that he actually meant it to compare them to covid. To me this feels more like a big misunderstanding I don't know... Don't get me wrong here please...

besides the fact that bts are people too and deserve basic respect when being spoken about, which people like this don't seem to realize because they're constantly looking at the fandom, comparing them to a literal pandemic so many around the world have been greatly affected by
