Has any user done jury duty or has done a similar process in their home country? Recently I’ve had to get an excuse from jury duty cause I’m on an entirely different continent, but I’m curious about past experiences or ways people have gotten out of it.

You know how in courtrooms during cases you hear the jury’s verdict? Well the jury are made up of 12 members of the general public. They see all the evidence and determine whether somebody is guilty or not. It has to be unanimous though, with at least 10 people needing to be in agreement (either way)

you are sent a notice to appear as a particular court where you go into a big pool of candidates. each Jury trial will have a bunch of folks initially called to be selected from.
It is mandatory to show up if called, but you can usually defer 1 time super easily, and more times will really take good reasons.

I have served and been close a few more times for some trials i really did not want to be on. (made it to the last selection.)
The size of the jury can be different 6-18 +.
The standard for felony cases is 12.

If you really do not want to serve just be a jerk during selection.
Most jobs give ya the time off and may pay you your normal wage.
if ya get selected or ever take several days as they choose a final jury there is a small amount of pay.

For me, it’s rather dreadful as the county I’m in has horrible public transportation and I technically live somewhere else. I only have that address on record b/c it’s much more reliable than my uni one.

my mom was summoned and she wanted out bc she knows its boring lol
it's easy to be excused though, just had to go to a website and make up an excuse
