Oh I see. Well better late than never I guess... It was really unfair how people treated Janet after the incident, I think it wasn't until a couple of years ago, that she was still banned of performing at the NFL.
About Britney, I never paid that much attention to their relationship. You see, I was more fan of Christina Aguilera at that time and always preferred BSB to N*Sync, so I really noticed Justin when he released Cry me a River and the rumor was Britney cheated on him. He clearly took advantage of that situation but in that sense, it wouldn't be that different from how other artists have trashed their ex's in their songs. Anyways, at least he addressed the issue.

It's disgusting that he stooped this low and waited years to apologize for it. He should have apologized right away. Not when he found it convenient

Here is the Super Bowl clip. Note: Janet is wearing a nipple accessory. Yes, I'm calling BS on it being a "wardrobe malfunction." It was all planned. The problem is when the general public criticized her for it, he stepped away and pretended not to be a participant. He let her take the fall when he was part of the decision-making as well, however minor. One of the "yes" people around them should've told them it was inappropriate for Super Bowl.

Do I feel for Britney.. Maybe. Its hard to feel for her when the public is making a big deal out of this, but virtually ignoring the plights of individuals with similar and/or bigger situations: Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson. Unlike Britney, Mariah spent a childhood in misery, plus ~6 years under the control of a megalomaniac. J-Lo stole her music and f**d over her comeback. She was sequestered for a few years. Janet similarly was under the control of powerful men: First Joe Jackson who she reported chocked her during a disagreement. (La Toya had also said he molested her and Rebbie so I wouldn't be surprised if his physical violence toward Janet was more frequent). He also tried to control the trajectory of her career. Then there was her marriage to Rene who cheated on her incessantly (c.f. What About) and physically abused her. Plus her recent marriage was reportedly similar. She reported, due to the maxims of Orthodox Islam, that she was unable to listen to music.

Do I feel bad for Britney. Yes. But I feel bad for others more. And the fact that its Britney is really the only reason people (not everyone) are on about this. People feel the need to protect her, even if there weren't a conservatorship, people would be the same because of her demeanor and how she conducts herself; similar to Michael Jackson.

Did he apologize to them personally? I don't think it matters if he apologizes to his fans or anyone else .. the fans don't deserve an apology, the women do.

+1. Plus when the Britney thing happened he was ~22 and when the Janet thing happened it was 2004 so he'd be 23-24... Should he have apologized.. Probably. Mostly to Janet. But still she was able to maintain a relatively dedicated fanbase and success. Damita Jo and 20 YO went platinum... But really the only reason he felt the need to apologize was because of people feeling bad for Britney now. People don't really understand consequences until they are like 28.

But still celebrities (Shannen Doherty) have ran over boyfriends, threatened to shoot, and other things in teens and early twenties. And I really don't think people in their early twenties should be held accountable when they are in their 40s. Plus, even if he offered an apology to the public that wasn't within a month, the fans would have the same reaction now: too little too late.

Let's see if I can recall everything. Controlling father. I believe he may have been abusive given the fact that Nick Lachey said on WWHL that her father would grope him under the table. She has also been pigeon holed into a specific music since I believe she was more interested in doing vocal type music rather than the stuff she did, but the label and her father basically did the britney equivilant, where britney was forced to sing in baby voice and jessica was forced to be this mindless pop star that never really got to the level of a britney or christina. The reality show also heightened the view of her being a dumb blonde. The best example is the clip online with her not understanding the chicken of the sea tuna... Lastly, there was her horrible track record with men. While I am unsure of how she was treated with Nick (I heard that she was coerced into marrying him as a career move, but I'd have to double check) she was with John Mayer and he treated her poorly and even did a magazine interview and talked about her in bed. This may have been less of a douche if it weren't for the fact that she had marketed herself as this Donna Martin of pop stars in that she waited for marriage to have sex. And there was this perpetual fat shaming. This is true of other stars (e.g. Britney, Christina), but it must have been extra for Jessica since she wrote a song about it (c.f. In This Skin).

There's prolly more, but I haven't read her book that she released a year or so ago. But I think Xtina was really one of the only 00s pop stars that was able to navigate her career her way. The way she effortlessly fills her albums with pop music, while having a great degree of her catelogue devoted to jazz and r&b esque ballads. But when you have an absense of an authoritarian home environment, you are more likely to question things and speak out. Janet and Britney have both had possessive and controlling fathers and what is cemented in childhood tends to bleed into adulthood. This is very clear when you hear any of the Jackson's speak. They are very soft spoken and coming from a family of strong, loud, outspoken women, it is hard to see any woman as being demure or docile. Although, I do think that during periods of time both have found their voice. Janet is more than capable of speaking her mind. Remember in the mid 90s when she said Madonna had no class.. Or when everyone was shook when britney said during her residency, "The press has a lot to say... So I gotta give all you mo****f***s something to talk about."

And then there's Pink. I remember during her Behind the Music docu on vh1 her mother said that when she was a teen she caught her smoking and scolded her. Pink said, "I'm not in the house. I'm in the garage." Her rebellion was grounded in her at an early age, so her telling record execs and higher ups to f**k off is not surprising. Although, pink sort of reminds me of a pop-star that isn't really a pop star. Sort of like the Avril Lavigne of pop stars.

Oh. I didn't realize that. Honestly though, the only time I really paid attention to JT was when he was in Alpha Dogs, which I was forced into watching over and over, because that's what everyone was watching at the time. To this day I haven't finished the movie though. But to the point: even when I started getting into music I didn't pay attention to him, even with his comeback a couple of years ago. But then again I prefer Nick Carter, so...
