haiii I wanted to share what I found regarding Tech used for shipping your precious kpop albums by sea

A standard ship right now uses Low-speed two stroke engines to burn Low quality oil.
Now what are the improvements that companies came up with?

• Sailing:
  • Yep sails are back...
  • but there are three types of sail:
    • Magnus Effect sails
      • Uhh basically massive spinning upright cylinders
        • air going around one side is accelerated because it follows the rotation, causing low pressure on this side
        • air going around the other side is decelerated because it contradicts the rotation, causing high pressure on this side.
        • Because of the above it can act like a wing and still create "lift" (sideways ofc to push the ship) without actually having to point the sails. (lift is because the high pressure wants to push over to the low pressure so it pushes on the "sail" between it.

    • Airfoil sails
      • Like a airplane wing but vertical.
      • It has a bulge on one side to create faster, lower pressure and the flatter side is slower, higher pressure, pushing on the sails

    • normie sails
      • This one's not making a comeback
      • Its the normal cloth sail that catches the wind.
• Sun
  • Solar assisted ships are making a comeback
  • Basically at least one of the propellers is electric (they're almost all electric now)
    • and you feed it using solar panels.

• Some other fuels:
  • LNG (Liquified Natural Gas)
    • These kinds of ship uses natural gas, thereby saving a ton of SOx and NOx emissions, both cause acid rain.
    • They leak methane though which is much more effective as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

• Sailing techniques:
  • Low 'n' Slow
    • Reducing speed helps reduce drag, which saves fuel.
    • Some ship shapes are designed to be most efficient at a narrow range of speeds but this technique is so effective that some shipping companies have started rebuilding the front of their ships so that they can go slower.

Edit: In conclusion, most of what's holding back the shipping industry is cheap fuel and the fact that they want to use their ships for 20-30 years to get their money's worth.
