The staff probably played a part in their styling, but in general, I have came to the conclusion that many people from Asia wont ever realize how much of a big issue this is because of the rarity of black people in their populations. They also might know about the English slur but do use the translation in their own language like it is nothing. (I am also Asian)
Although I find it more shocking that this group has foreign raised members (?). At this point it could be a stupid choice I guess.

And it seems like Julie spent the most time living abroad of the members. I guess they mostly moved to SK when they were younger but it’s still hard to assume they actually don’t know anything about this, especially with half the group being from the US.

Honestly you're being very insensitive. This is clearly appropriation taken from black people alone. Not only that, they are making fun and acting out stereotypes. It is not just wearing a cap or whatever you're trying to justify. I don't know how you think this is stupid. It is plain ignorance and disrespectful so stop diminishing this. I cannot imagine how this must feel, but it has to be a slap in the face. There are many things that happened at this “party” that were appropriation of black culture. There are things such as language (aave), clothing, music, that are deeply rooted in black culture. There has been a long history of systemic oppression. Please take a moment to educate yourselves before commenting, especially if you are not a person of colour (I am not a person of colour). It is completely understandable that people will choose to not support them anymore. Personally, if they do apologize, it is not mine to accept. It is for those affected. I won’t stop listening to their music over this, but hope that they are held accountable for their actions.

my friend this is a very complicated and nuanced issue that is deeply rooted in history and slavery and racism.

I am not African American and do not seek to profess to even understand a fraction of their experiences however I will say the same thing I said over on the other side...

I will preface it by saying I'm pretty sure other members of the forum who are African America can give more context to this but I'll add what I know from my personal experience

there is so much nuance and background and history to black culture in America that there is no change in hell I could explain anything in detail on a kpop forum - from the times of slavery to modern system racism African Americans have faced a lot of hardship and adversity in the perseverance of their identity.

And thus SOME African Americans feel like there are certain aspects of themselves that is very unique to them and them only. For example (this is not a definitive list and not all African Americans would agree but generally from what I've seen)

Hairstyling - very unique ways of caring for their hair and the use of certain braids

Speech - a few years ago I learned what AAVE is and the way certain African Americans speak that is not perfectly "standard English" for example I have an African American friend who says aks instead of ask as an example

Clothing - for example the durag which I learned was used for hair protection ( I learned this during the Lisa durag vs bandana issue lol)

Music - Hip hop and RnB are deep rooted in black culture and SOME (lots??) of African Americans feel that these are unique to African Americans and their history

Again this is not an exhaustive list and there may be much much more

the difference between that and say Chinese culture (which I am Chinese) again from my own experience is that foreign entities have not (especially in mass) tried to use Chinese culture for their own gains to the detriment of said Chinese. and thus the Chinese were happy when other foreign entities used aspects of Chinese culture

for African Americans though it is often the adoption or use of their culture TO THEIR DETRIMENT historically and often to the benefit of the foreigner or outsider and thus to African Americans it seems that such use of aspects of their culture strips away something that is unique to them and their identity

specifically with regards to Eminem - I would say I am a stan of Eminem and the only person or group that I can say I stan him - there are a lot of people who say he is appropriating African American culture however he grew up in Detroit surrounded by people of African American decent and deeply rooted in underground rap and hip hop and RnB. That is his lived experience and to my knowledge what he is singing and rapping is cultural appreciation of the background of where he is from as oppose to cultural appropriation

Again I am but an outsider to all this and the more knowledgeable members of the forum especially those from the US can provide more insight into this issue.

to all the people having a go at the panda I say - try to enlighten them on the issues surrounding this very complex issue instead of going after them so that in the future they can (start) to understand the issues a bit better

Yeah, it might have been insensitive and I am insensitive but reality is there is much bigger problems in the world. Want a real race problem, how about the Nazi's marching around causing good black men to stand at the entrances of their communities with military grade riffles in the middle of the US to keep their communities safe. THAT'S a race problem. A stupid party that mimics black themes put on by girls who are known to be fans of Rap and R&B is not the end of the world and not worthy of drama. Lets not build the gallows and get some ropes boys! The world has real problems. This isn't one of them. That being said, I love everyone here. Nothing is ever going to change that.

That is a problem but RIGHT now we are addressing this issue. I noticed that when these things happen people like to use world problems to diminish it even tho we do see that as an issue but RIGHT NOW in this moment this is an issue. I highly doubt you cared about those issues until now lol
