Article: Military Manpower Administration (MMA) "Steve Yoo vs. Seung-jun entry ban...public anger + controversy

Source: Sports Chosun

The Korean public is not willing to accept the Supreme Court's decision in Steve Yoo's case.

On the 11th, the Supreme Court dismissed the Seoul High Court's prior visa denial ruling against Steve Yoo essentially making it possible for the singer to travel back to Korea after 17 years.

But Koreans are struggling to accept this ruling and as a result a petition has been submitted to the Blue House asking the Korean government to ban the singer from entering the country.

As of July 16th KST, the petition has been signed by more than 193,000 people and is the top trending and most shared petition on the site.

The title of the petition reads: "Please ban the entry of Steve Yoo (Yoo Seung-jun) again. It's discomforting to many people and does not further equality in our country." Link to the petition here.

It's been 17 years since Steve Yoo stepped on Korean soil so many are curious what the outcome will be especially if the public's opposition continues to grow more intense in the coming weeks.

You can read more about the controversy here.

  1. [+3,028, -31] He didn't want to go to public service so he got his U.S citizenship but he's crawling back now because he ran out of moneyㅋㅋ
  2. [+1,534, -29] Just live a decent life in America with your citizenship and pay your taxes.. stop making a fuss trying to enter Korea..
  3. [+1,028, -25] Yoo Seung Jun is seriously a despicable person...he deceived his fans with those fake tears and lies without reflection!! Just live happily in America! Why are you trying to come to Korea??
  4. [+863, -22] Just wait...this judge will soon get his rightful humiliation too..
  5. [+282, -6] This b$stard ran out of money after running away from service now he's trying to sue to come back to Korea.ㅋㅋ..don't let that b$stard enter this country!!
  6. [+237, -16] Don't forget to reply with "No entry" "No entry" "No entry"
  7. [+101, -3] Chaebols are now going to start using the "Yoo Seung-jun method" to avoid military serviceㅋㅋ

i can't imagine koreans, particularly men who served their time, and even more specifically, idols who served their time at the height of their careers, forgiving this guy. he did what he did because he thought he was famous enough to get away with it so i have no sympathy for him.

but it's been 17 years and it does seem unethical to ban him from korea. i wonder what he'll do once he's there. some people think he's going to go straight to his fans and honestly he already seems like an egotistical asshole i wouldn't be surprised...
